It’s one of the lightest and most compact hair dryers I’ve ever used, which made the whole drying experience a lot more comfortable, and less of a chore. It’s so nice to use a hair dryer where the controls are placed exactly where you want them so you can easily switch between heat and speed settings mid-blow-dry - quite a rarity on newer models. In general, a higher wattage indicates a more powerful and effective dryer. Hair salons will typically use dryers with 2,000W motors and above, allowing experienced stylists to blow-dry efficiently. However, like many salon products, these powerful tools are best left in the hands of professionals who know how to wield them safely. At-home hair dryers usually fall in the 1,000W-1,600W range.

The draw of the particular model I tested was the patent-pending Magic Sense Special Diffuser, said to “revolutionize how you dry curls and style hair, for a breath-taking finish.” Apparently, it’s all down to the size and spacing of openings, which deliver the perfect balance of temperature and airflow. The diffuser is a generous size with 15 massaging prongs that lift and separate the hair, meaning I could work through my wet mop in larger sections and cut my drying time. The Alyon’s ionising technology is good for dry hair that needs a little extra conditioning care, and especially good for curly hair that tends to frizz with heat styling. The dryer made light work of our shoulder-length curly hair; the Alyon dries hair beautifully fast and hair feels soft and silky after drying, especially if you use the lower heat setting. Ceramic Ionic – This technology contributes to healthier, static and frizz free results. The combined effect of CERAMICS with a NEGATIVE ION charge permits heat to be radiated directly inside the hair, without drying out the hair’s external structure. This is a dryer that doesn’t mess around. It certainly feels powerful when you are using it, particularly with one of the two smoothing nozzles included. It emits a fast and concentrated flow that my hair had no choice but to follow into smoothed-out sheets. It took about 10 minutes for the Alyon to take my hair from just-out-of-the-shower sopping to dry-and-ready-to-go. For this reason alone, I can understand why it’s the weapon of choice for hairdressers and session stylists. The Hair Tools Universal Diffuser and Hair Tools Universal Volumax AirFlow Diffuser also fit all Parlux hairdryers except the Parlux 3500 and 385. The nozzles’ contoured design delivers a concentrated blade of air for a smoother, sleeker finish. These styling attachments definitely gave me superior control. My hair doesn’t always play nicely with a dryer - it can end up frizzier than if I had gone to bed with damp hair. But the slim nozzles gave me extra precision, especially when navigating a newly-snipped fringe. For some, the Parlux Alyon’s straightforwardness is its biggest selling point. But it’s hard not to pit it against newer, snazzier models like the Dyson Supersonic and Shark Style IQ Ionic Hair Dryer & Styler with their kinder-to-hair airflow technology. I have to flag for the sake of fairness that there is a noise factor. It isn’t especially loud, but if you’re used to Dyson’s almost disconcertingly quiet motor it may appear noisy.What surprised us most about the Parlux is that it comes hiding a powerful 2400-watt digital E-LYON motor in its lightweight design. The hair dryer is designed to deliver a concentrated air flow of up to 88m3/h, which reduces drying time but also protects the hair to give you that glossy finish. Using a decibel meter app, we measured noise at 84dB on the hair dryer's highest setting, which we think is impressively low for such a powerful and fast model.
The ultimate professional experience – offers the most features & benefits out of all the Parlux range. One of the easiest things to overlook when buying a hair dryer is how long the cable is. Some cheaper models come with relatively short cables, while pricier models often boast “salon-length” mains cables, which are as long as 4m. The digital motor is extremely quiet and the integrated acoustic silencing system ensures sound levels are kept to a minimum. These nozzles are great if you blow-dry around a round brush for a salon-style blowout.Take note of the warranty instructions as failure to follow these may result in warranty being void. For its power rating, the Alyon is a fantastically lightweight and compact hair dryer; because of its light and compact design, it feels very comfortable to use, even for long periods of time. The tool feels nicely balanced in the hand, and the handle is pleasant to hold. The two heat and airflow settings are controlled with soft, large buttons on the side of the handle. The switches are easy to find and operate in the middle of drying, so you can easily move between higher speed and heat settings for an initial rough-dry to lower heat for precision styling. The two concentrator nozzles slide on and off easily, making it easy to switch between the two. This is also an ionic dryer, meaning it emits a flow of negative ions to eliminate static and prevent frizz, speed up drying time and make hair softer. I would definitely agree that this left my hair slightly less frizzy than other hair dryers I’ve used in the past. The Parlux Alyon is the most recently launched must have professional hairdryer from Parlux, as a result of over 40 years of research and development. The Parlux Alyon, a name which evokes the meaning of power, is a combination of technology and innovation; two characteristics also expressed by it's unique prismatic finish.
