About this deal

Another often recommended glue, especially for jewelry use, is E6000. While it can be a very good glue for some uses, it does tend to remain gummy and never fully harden on polymer clay. Many people DO have good results, but many others do not. I suspect the issue lies with the brand of polymer clay or perhaps the age of the E6000. But don’t be surprised if you find that this glue fails for you. If you want to enter the world of crafting, our Sculpey® polymer clays for beginners are a great place to start. Browse our range of polymer products to find the right clay to bring your vision to life. We supply the tools, you supply the creativity! Use clay to make keepsakes or items you want to treasure each season. Bake your clay creations and add glue magnets to create a decoration for your fridge or a unique Christmas ornament to hang on your tree every year. 7. Create embellishments for cards, frames and scrapbooks

You can experiment with making mini figurines as decorative displays or toys. Create adorable items such as food, animals and cars to display on your living room shelves or desk in an office. 5. Transform or embellish existing objects When you're using polymer clay for the first time, you can incorporate a few tips into your craft session to make it even more of a success: Plant vases: You can create an eye-catching vase for your plants with our Sculpey Premo™ clay. Choose your favorite colors and craft away! Link copied to clipboard Working in three dimensions can be an interesting artistic challenge. Our guide on how to make clay sculptures breaks it down into simple, easy-to-follow steps. Preheat the oven: Confirm temperature accuracy with an oven thermometer and preheat the oven or toaster oven to 275 °F (130 °C).Brass rods, aluminium wire and other stronger materials can be used for this too, but it is often easier to practise clay sculpting at home with more contained shapes. Once you’ve got the hang of this, then it’s time to consider adding armatures into your repertoire. 5. Look out for a local studio If you are working without a potter’s wheel, there are still several simple ways of building up forms. Coils of clay are a good way of building up the sides of a hollow shape – laying the clay down in a spiral prevents it collapsing easily. Recesses can also be created by pinching the clay, digging out with your thumb and forefinger. 4. Avoid protruding shapes You can sculpt some jewelry parts with clay and mix them with other materials. Add items such as metal beads, charms or ribbons to create beautiful accessories. 3. Decorate your home Another recommendation, if you’re a beginner creating a 3D sculpture for your home, is to think about what direction it will most commonly be viewed from. Then if your attempt isn’t perfect from all angles, it will at least look good in position. Individual solid clay: A uniform color offers many possibilities on its own or mixed with another clay.

It is so sad to work hard creating something that breaks when it’s worn or used. It’s even more horrifying to realize that you’ve sold something that is made from weak clay and won’t be durable. Not all polymer clay brands are created equal and each has its uses and purposes. For making things that are thin or have areas that are thinner than 1/4″ (6mm), make sure that you’re using a strong clay such as Premo, Fimo, Pardo, Kato, Cernit, or Souffle. Sculpey III, Original Sculpey, Super Sculpey, and Bake Shop are all quite brittle after baking and should not be used, unsupported, in any area thinner than 1/4″ (6mm). These weaker brands do have their uses, however, so save them for other projects. Here’s more about choosing the best brand of polymer clay for your project. Super Sculpey®: A shatter-resistant option available in three different levels of firmness, Super Sculpey® is great for professional applications. We have it in 1-ounce and 8-ounce sizes with different shade options. Welcome to the wonderful world of crafting! At Sculpey®, we have a wide range of products designed with beginners in mind to help you create clay creations effortlessly. For beginners with an interest in clay, our polymer clay is ideal for finding your own style as a clayer because of its easy-to-sculpt formula that stays soft until you bake it in your home oven. Out of the above clays, the water-based option is best for beginners sculpting at home. Although it is often shaped on a potter’s wheel, it is by far the easiest to use to create shapes and forms using hand-building techniques. How to start sculpting? This gives you the chance to try firing your finished works for permanence and will ultimate improve your clay sculpting skills. Bangle bracelets: Our Sculpey III® clay comes in a wide selection of finishes such as metallic and glitter, which are ideal for creating stunning bracelets. Light colored or translucent polymer clay will commonly discolor and darken during baking. This is not the same thing as burning. To prevent this, first make sure that your oven truly is baking at the correct temperature. Then cover your pieces to prevent the oven’s element from toasting your polymer clay project.
