Everything was well made, well acted, well shot etc. The brutality of it all was maintained throughout. I watched some of the game footage on you tube and there is a lot here that is identical to the game so thats a plus for fans of the game plus it works for a TV show so kudos to the game makers. Inside the Episode #1-The cast and filmmakers detail the emotionally charged beginnings of the end of modern civilization. After a global pandemic destroys civilization, a hardened survivor takes charge of a 14-year-old girl who may be humanity’s last hope.
Episode 8 brings us to ‘the David episode’. Yep, if you’ve played the game, you know what’s coming. I *will* talk about what happens in both in this section, but the episode has aired, so expect spoilers. The Last of Us: Stranger Than Fiction (New Featurette Exclusive to 4K, BD and DVD) – Series cast and filmmakers are joined by experts in survival, microbiology, and parasitology for a chilling discussion on the realities of the invasive fungus and subsequent apocalypse in The Last of Us. The prologue was informative but understated, The opening was brilliant and as good as anything you would see in a movie. The 2013 game – in original PS3, remastered PS4 and remade PS5 flavours – is, as I’ve mentioned, one of my all-time favourite games. The chemistry between Joel and Ellie is beautiful, and while I’ve mentioned the two lead actors for that game already, it’s pleasing that both are getting small roles in this actual series – as has already been confirmed online. I won’t go into detail about who they play, however, but once each episode ends, I may go into more detail, as previously mentioned, with added spoiler banners.

Similarly, in another scene not in the game, we’re introduced to Ellie who’s chained up for reasons not yet explained – unless you’ve played the game and know what makes her unique. However, in the game, we don’t see Ellie until Joel’s been to see Marlene and is tasked with taking her to the Fireflies, who offer humanity a chance for salvation. I will admit that Pascal and Ramsey did exhibit some chemistry in this episode, when they were at loggerheads, then tried to find some common ground before heading off towards the Fireflies, but it still feels like a bad cover version. Inside the Episode #4-Cast and filmmakers break down Joel and Ellie’s journey into Kansas City and the addition of characters Kathleen and Perry.
As an aside, there’s also an issue for some that there are no spores in this series. Perhaps because that would cause the actors to have their faces covered while wearing masks, but then there’s tendrils instead, which it appears were already a part of the game – as the video below shows. That said, there’s a number of issues with the series anyway, which I’ll get into as it goes on, each of which will air after the episode has ended, and EXPECT SPOILERS WITHIN! Pedro Pascal ( The Mandalorian, Wonder Woman 1984) and Bella Ramsey (HBO’s His Dark Materialsand Game of Thrones) star as Joel and Ellie. Gabriel Luna ( True Detective )as Joel’s younger brother and former soldier, Tommy; Merle Dandridge ( The Last of Usvideo games, The Flight Attendant) as resistance leader Marlene; and Anna Torv ( Fringe)as Tess, a smuggler and fellow hardened survivor. Well I think overall Id give this a 7 or 8, the opening episode was definitely a 9 the rest of the show would be getting either 7 or 8s depending on how appealing they were to me. The Last of Us will have a total of nine episodes, the first episode premiered on HBO and HBO Max in the US on Sunday, January 15 at 9pm ET – it aired simultaneously in the UK at the same time on Sky Atlantic in the early hours on Monday, January 16 at 2am GMT. How to watch The Last of Us in the UKSome things that are nice to see (albeit a bit grim) is the cordyceps wrapping around a corpse when someone dies. That’s not something you’d concentrate on in the game because you’re too busy trying to save yourselves, but here, the camera is allowed to linger. So, hey, a plus! At this point, the game shows us a conversation between Joel and Tess, whereas the TV series sees the cops dealing with a young girl they’ve chanced upon, who’s out walking on her own. It’s not Ellie, but it does lead into Joel and Tess’ introduction in 2023. This is a series I’ve been very sceptical of ever since I first heard about it, since the videogames – the first, in particular – are amongst my favourites of all time. When you get involved in the story and the lives of the characters and all the perils they go through, it’s difficult to see and hear something different. Inside the Episode #3-Learn from the cast and filmmakers how Bill and Frank’s story deviated from the game and was expanded in the series adaptation.
The story and overlying themes are very simple and relate to parenting and how we protect our children or the young. In this episode, sometimes, you get scenes with the resistance – whose side we never saw in the game, since it’s all about Joel and Ellie’s survival. So, that’s a chance, but not a huge one. I thought they’d made a featre-length finale, but it’s only 43 minutes, making it the shortest episode in the whole series! It’s nice to see the giraffes, though… Inside the Episode #7-The cast details the adventure Ellie and Riley have in the mall and reveal its lasting impact on Ellie’s journey.

Ashley Johnson Spotlight-Get to know more about Ashley Johnson, the actress behind game Ellie and the mother to the show's Ellie. Also in the game, it just cut to the next season, but in the series, there’s a short scene where Joel digs graves for them both, and Ellie puts Sam’s writing pad on top of the lad’s grave, with the words, “I’m sorry” written on it. So, that was a nice addition. Is This a The Last of Us Line?– Merle Dandridge & Gabriel Luna-Watch Gabriel Luna and Merle Dandridge try to guess which lines are from their show and which are from other HBO series. The final scene between Ellie and Joel, though, was like a bad cover version compared to the original game finale.
