About this deal

Overall, we think this is a superb water gun that'll make everyone want to be on your team for your next water fight. Don't shoot at point blank range – foam darts are soft, but if you get hit by them at very close range they might sting a little. The darts won't have any chance to slow down in the air, so at that range they'll be hitting you as hard as they can. We put up a target and used each toy gun to fire several rounds of foam darts, judging them on how firmly the darts hit the target, and how easily we were able to hit the same spot consistently. Ease of use We'd certainly recommend this water gun for the littlest ones in the water fight, but older children would probably prefer it as a side-arm.

One of the water guns, the Nerf Super Soaker Fortnite HC-E, was unfortunately broken on arrival, so we were unable to complete testing for that one. Soaking powerLikewise, a soaker that’s too large for the child you are buying for will prove unwieldy. Since soaker battles aren’t the kind of activity you play when standing still, any soaker you buy should be at a scale your child can easily manage. What is the most powerful water gun?

Water guns with single shots and those that need pumping up before firing are especially weak against moving targets. It takes time to prepare those water guns to fire so you've got to make your shots count, which isn't easy when your target is on the run. 4) Wear the right clothes We then fired each water gun from a couple of metres away, ensuring that the whole shot hit the tester's overalls. I'm Janelle and I'm the parenting writer here at Reviewed. I also happen to love a good water war and have been shooting Super Soakers and water guns since the early 1990s. While I’m not sure there is any sort of certification for expertise in water combat, I’d probably consider myself an expert on all things Super Soaker and beyond. Speed and agility are important in water fights, so you'll want to avoid being weighed down by heavy, absorbent clothing.First and foremost, when we tested for the best water guns we looked for playability; we tested the distance and the velocity of water streams for each. This is because once it leaves the gun the water starts to drop, so aiming it slightly higher will give the water a chance to cover more ground before it falls. This surprisingly powerful soaker completely kept pace with competing models that are geared toward older kids. The Dino-Soak effectively shot streams of water slightly over 25 feet, making it a formidable piece of artillery. It was also surprisingly lightweight, so younger kids really felt like they were at the top of their blaster game. This tactic can be used to your advantage when your enemies run out of water, too. If you're close to the refill station when they need to come in to load up, they'll be left wide open for you to give them a good soaking without any risk of return fire. 2) Aim high

Nothing says summer fun like an old-fashioned water war. From Super Soakers to water pistols, water guns have come a long way since we were kids, and they just keep getting better. This summer we did some serious testing to see which of these bad boys are truly the best water guns for kids. Its fast-fill technology puts kids at the top of their water combat game. For smaller kids that don’t have the muscle to handle the X-Shot’s 34-ounce water capacity, the Nerf Super Soaker DinoSquad Dino-Soak Water Blaster ( available at Target) ran a close second. But this water gun did come up the shortest in our range tests and it can't be relied on to get your opponents especially wet. We measured the capacity of each water gun by filling the water tank up to maximum and then pouring it out into a container on a set of scales that told us how many millilitres of water were inside. Finally, we tested for weight and ease of carrying. We weighed each soaker after it was filled, but we looked at this objectively as well observing the kids and determining how long a child could use a soaker—particularly the heavier ones—before they decided if it was too heavy for a kid to use for extended water blasting. What You Should Know About Buying a Water Gun Which water gun has the largest water tank? Don't aim for the head – even if you're wearing protection over your eyes, it can still be quite uncomfortable to get hit by a foam dart around sensitive spots such as your ears or mouth, and your opponents won't thank you for it. Aiming for the torso is the best way to avoid spoiling play, and gives you the best chance of landing a hit.

To find out how each water gun fares at the all-important task of drenching your opponents, we dressed a tester in white overalls and dyed the water in our water guns green. At an impressive range of 9 metres, you'll also be likely to hit your opponents before they can get close enough to return fire. There's no fiddly trigger to pull as the Microburst 2 fires as you pump it, and 20 shots is plenty for a water gun with such a low overall tank capacity. I’ve tested toys and products for Reviewed for three years and love to nerd out on the nuances of each product. You'll have to make those shots count, however, as despite having a capacity of more than a litre we only fired it seven times before it needed refilling. This may be partly due to how much water is wasted during pumping, as it dribbled a lot of water out of the end of the barrel when we were pumping it up.Nobody wants to spend more time fiddling around with their toy gun than playing with it, so we assessed how straightforward each toy was to handle, fire, and reload, and we considered how convenient its capacity was. Fun factor You might be tempted to don your army fatigues, but you'll be at a major disadvantage. Light clothes that won't absorb too much water are best for keeping you agile and speedy in the heat of water-based battle. 5) Get to cover When it comes to firing water, you’re going to want to test the action on your water gun. Many water blasters put added tension at the pumps to enhance a soaker’s drenching capabilities. While this is generally a great thing, a worn-out pump arm is a buzzkill on the battlefield. We recommend you look for a soaker that has an action that your child can manage during long durations of play.
