About this deal

For just over two miles a single carriageway, varying in width, skirts the village of Kirkby Thore with local roads directly connected by several junctions and private access points. This includes an existing access route through the village of Kirkby Thore, which HGVs use to gain access to businesses to the north of the village. A40(M):( Westway• Denham-Stokenchurch)• A41(M)• A42• A46(M)• A48(M):( PortTalbotbypass• Morristonbypass)• A62(M)• A88• A99 I had a fantastic day on Wednesday, 11 October delivering STEM workshops to a cluster of schools in West Durham. The event was arranged by the careers facilitators at the North East Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), as part of their role in the national Primary Pilot, “Start small, dream big”.

Raise the new A66 as it passes through the cutting next to the Carkin Moor scheduled monument. This will help us better accommodate the retaining walls to the north and south of the new A66 and reduce any impact on the scheduled monument itselfProvide access to the local road network with the introduction of a new left-in, left-out junction at the B6262. Although the road between M6 junction 40 and the Kemplay Bank roundabout is a dual carriageway, vehicles slowing down as they approach Kemplay Bank can cause safety issues and create problems for both east/ westbound and north/southbound traffic as it passes through the roundabout. Benefits There are four miles of single carriageway on this section of the A66 in need of improving to dual carriageway to improve safety, ease congestion and provide better access for local communities. While the road is relatively straight, it rises and falls in areas, causing visibility issues and requiring HGVs (HGVs) to accelerate to navigate steep inclines. Multiple access points present serious safety issues where vehicles attempt to join the single lane A66 at high speeds. Additionally, drivers are put in a vulnerable position when attempting to slow down and leave the A66, particularly when turning right. Benefits Later in the 1960s, the Darlington to Middlesbrough section of the A67 was usurped by the present A66. Subsequent improvements have taken the A66 away from the original A67 route, notably in Darlington itself, where the original route to the east the town is now partly the B6279 (anomalously numbered as it is entirely to the east of the A1).

We’ll be placing roadside signage at the road closure points to clearly signpost the diversion routes. We will be resurfacing the north and southbound carriageway and replacing the road studs and markings between Brownieside and the junction with the B1341 Adderston at Purdy Lodge. Access will be maintained either through local access onto the A67 or by following the diversion route onto the westbound carriageway and using the appropriate gap in the central reserve for access to the property. All gaps will be manned by traffic management operatives Reduces land take around Dyke Nook Cottage as one of the drainage ponds will be moved to the north side
