About this deal

According to HMRC, you can use either a paper hours log book or an EU-approved and sealed tachograph. The ‘Get a vehicle log book (V5C)’ service is the latest DVLA online service, and has been designed for motorists who have lost or damaged their log book. Along with other parts of the regulations in place before August 2020, the changes mean that all drivers (including occasional drivers) must keep a full set of records of their activities for the current day and the previous 28 days. The records must cover their: you include proof of your name change if you’re legally changing your name (for example a deed poll) In the remarks section, you can write down statements explaining all of the activities you have done and where you were every time you changed your activity. Make sure to indicate the town or city and the state you’re in. Then indicate the nearest landmark to ensure the accuracy of your statement.

Whether you lost, misplaced or never had a V5C in the first place, get on it as soon as possible. Below are your options and what to do in each situation. Apply by phone Here are the changes that the DVLA needs to be informed of. They don’t always make it to the log book , which is determined upon inspection: If you are under 25 – you must log at least 120 hours of supervised driving. This needs to include at least 20 hours of night driving (between sunset and sunrise). You need to complete these requirements before you can take a driving test, unless you are exempt. Completing the Safer Driver Course and 3 for 1 bonus hours can help you reach the 120 hours faster. A log book provides the information that makes the car identifiable. If anything drastic changes about the car, the registered keeper is required to update it by law. This means you can always tell if the person is being honest about the car and whether there have been any unaccounted modifications. For further information on the actions DVSA traffic examiners take to deal with offences on the roadside please refer to the DVSA Enforcement Sanctions Policy. Means of manually recording other activities For example, if the driver is driving from 8:00 AM to noon, they should draw a line across those four boxes in the driving section of the log book. Mistakes to Avoid The attestation forms must use the template at Form of attestation of activities (europa.eu). This is pending new rules in the EU envisaged to be brought in next year.

Not writing the name of the city where you came from and where you went. You write this information on the remarks section of the log. If you have a trailer, you may need to register it to take it abroad. If your new log book does not arrive An additional 20 hours of log book credit can be earned when you complete the NSW Safer Drivers Course. Drivers of fatigue-regulated heavy vehicles are not allowed to drive or work more than the maximum work hours or rest less than the minimum rest hours in a certain period set out by law. The National Driver Work Diary ensures compliance with this law.Bear in mind that if you only took a few parts of the vehicle to keep in your garage and got rid of the rest, it’s classified as scrapped, not off-road. Taxing a car As an alternative, European Commission officials have confirmed that attestation forms for drivers’ hours records continue to be available and should be accepted in the context of journeys involving EU member states. You can apply by phone if you’re the registered keeper on the V5C that’s gone missing or is damaged.

You must apply for a V5C and tax your vehicle online, by phone, or at a post office. Alternatively, you can tax your car if you have a V11 reminder, a V62 application, or a green ‘new keeper’ slip. You may also need a valid MOT testcertificate. This course can help you understand speed management, gap selection, hazard awareness, safe following distances and how to keep driving safely when you get distracted. Driving with a licensed NSW driving instructor – you can record triple the time of your lesson in your log book. For example, if you have a 1-hour lesson, you can log 3 hours of driving practice.

If you’re selling your car, you’ll be responsible for updating the log book (see other responsibilities here).

On the other hand, state names must be abbreviated. Do not spell out the state’s name in the daily log. Today we’ll cover everything you need to know about log books: what they look like, when you need them, how to get them, how to change their details, etc. There is tons of information to learn, so let’s get started! What is a vehicle log book (V5C) and what does it look like? A vehicle log book is a very detailed document with multiple sections that specify (not a full list)It should be noted that DVSA will always take action for any serious offence of excessive driving or inadequate rest, regardless of any failure to comply with the record keeping requirement. The safety of the driver and other road users will always take precedence. Falsifying records remains a serious offence and will be dealt with by DVSA in the normal way. If you know that the car has been scrapped or written off, inform the DVLA yourself. You can do it online on the portal(available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.). If you can’t use the service or some of the details on the vehicle log book are wrong, you can apply by post.
