About this deal

This phone is unique in the fact that I feel as though I could give it to any smartphone newcomer and they could intuitively figure it out themselves. That’s unique. What you look for in a simple phone is very different to a smartphone, particularly as simple phones are typically geared towards older phone users and those who need a cheap emergency handset. When the case is closed, users can still see the wallpaper image, time, date, battery icon and network information through the window in the case. The only time this simple menu structure breaks down slightly is when a user goes deep into Settings. At that point, the options are similar to those offered on all Android devices.

The Emporia Smart.5 is a fairly simple smartphone designed for those who prefer simpler devices. It is not compatible with some of the more advanced features and accessories that some smartphones offer, but it still provides the necessary functionality expected from a smartphone. Two features we especially liked for being easy to access and useful to the target market were the Magnifier and torch. Here’s the thing: When your intended customers are seventy and above, you can’t make any assumptions about their technical competency. Please don’t get me wrong: I’m not trying to lazily paint all seniors as inept. Rather, I’m saying there’s a broad distribution of abilities. The camera is not perfect when you consider macro & bokeh modes but this phone is for the senior market and the majority of users won’t be worried these features are not as good as they should be. The Portrait and auto mode works very well which I feel is the most important feature they will use every day when you consider the camera element.

To summarize, Emporia has taken what they did with the SMART.5 and made it feel more like a smartphone but without making it complicated to use. The Smart cover is a really useful addition and the improved battery and larger display are just some of the improvements they have done to make this an excellent option for someone looking for a phone for nan or grandad. Product Rating: The phone is IP54 rated which means it’s dust and splash-proof which is great for offering a bit of protection to the device. Speaking of adding protection, with the Emporia SMART.5 comes with a smart cover that works for these looking to bridge the link between the feature phone and smartphone. A QR Scan app is built-in to the S5, something that is more important than ever thanks to the coronavirus pandemic and the widespread use of QR codes. This is an area where the Emporia SMART.5 performs extremely well. It makes no assumptions about the competence of its users.

About Fonehouse

With that in mind, we'll focus on some of the features most useful to its target demographic. Uncluttered screens This also means that many of the worries suffered by seniors are taken away. The windows are responsive to fingers only, so no more accidental rings or mistakes during calls. Automatically put your phone in loudspeaker mode (an alarm will sound to alert anyone nearby to assist) It's an effective safety net for older people and their families, although it shouldn't be used as a replacement for other forms of emergency aid such as personal alarms. Touch Trainer Use Favourite Functions: Taking pictures, activating the torch and more can all be done with the Smartcase buttons

Yes, this phone is actually outfitted with four high-quality camera lenses: three at the rear and one front-facing camera for selfies. At the rear is a super-crisp 13 Megapixel camera for clear, vibrant shots, as well as two extra cameras for macros, night shots and portraits. The front-facing selfie camera takes pictures with 8 Megapixel detail, which is more than enough for detailed selfies. Can This Phone Help Me in Emergencies? There’s none of the snappy responsiveness expected from the latest-and-greatest flagships, but that’s fine. Web browsing and social apps load fast enough, and this is more than capable for the types of basic smartphone that its intended audience will perform. The phone is now slightly bigger in dimension – 150 x72 x10mm and but is now slightly lighter at 127g compared to 155g with the SMART.4. The Screen has increased to 5.5-inches and the camera has also been improved with a triple-lens camera that will allow for HD images as well as portrait and night mode, but more on the camera later.Overall, the S5 is much more suited to his needs than a traditional Android experience, and he didn't find many limitations.
