About this deal

The star of the show is obviously the Vintage Taxi itself. The parts are all fairly common, but the titanium-metallic front grill has had only one other appearance, in 76180: Batman vs. The Joker: Batmobile Chase.

A single minifigure is included. He's a shady-looking character who bears more than a passing resemblance to the newsstand operator and alleged doughnut thief in 10278 Police Station. In fact, there are baked goods in his case that further strengthen the clues to his identity. Focusing on the front of the Taxi you’ll see a handful of 1×1 clear studs that represent the headlights and such, you’ll also see the very impressive grille piece that is again moulded and not build-built, which is fine as this element isn’t seen to often and does fit the look and feel of the era the Car is from. The curves that run along each side are again seen at the front and add to the whole aesthetic. Having a portion of the pavement is a nice bonus although it does stand a little proud of the LEGO Modu baseplates. Maybe a MOC could remedy this and somehow build the Taxi rank into the Boutique Hotels walkway? As is usual for minifig-scale cars nowadays there are no doors, so access to the interior is by removing the roof.At first I also thought this looked really underwhelming, but on closer inspection it's actually a rather nice and clever build, with the exclusive printed parts making it highly desirable. I must say that this Minifigure is exclusive to the set, but as i mentioned above it’s only the combination that is unique as the printed torso and other parts have all been seen and used before in many other sets. This doesn’t detract at all from the wonderful design work LEGO have done on the Head and torso parts as that is top notch as always and done to their high standards. Well, a passenger, anyway. There’s only room here for the driver and a single rider. There is, however, space in the trunk for some luggage. Too bad our driver has already claimed that spot for his donut stash.

The vehicle looks sleek, streamlined and luxurious: in fact, far too good for use as a taxi: it's more like a limousine. The prominent curved wheel arches front and rear give it the appearance of a typical luxury 1930s car like a Rolls Royce Phantom or Citroen Traction Avant Take the amount needed out of the equation and it’s totally worth it and a joy to build and display, it sits perfectly alongside the LEGO Boutique Hotel (10297) and rightfully so, its from the same are after all! Is he the driver or the passenger? If the former, is he moonlighting as a cabbie, and why does he have what is presumably luggage? If the latter, where's the driver? The set comes with a single minifigure. Is he the driver of the cab? Is he a passenger? All we know for sure is that he has a 1×1 round printed donut tile in that suitcase. Another hidden detail…another mystery from the designers! Or maybe this dude just likes donuts.Whilst building. The set you obviously see what goes into its construction and the hidden details you may not see or even find from just looking at it.

As design standards have continued to change and evolve — such as with molded wheel arches and curved elements becoming more ubiquitous on LEGO vehicles — the practicality of those traditional door pieces has diminished further and further. No official minifig taxi has ever had space for more than one passenger, at this scale I don't think more than that would be feasible. It's a shame there are big gaps in the floor though, but I suppose that if a plate was put in to conceal them there wouldn't be enough clearance between the driver's head and the windscreen?" One thing that we can be sure of is that the vehicle looks great parked up outside this year's modular building, 10297 Boutique Hotel, and if you've yet to buy it, now would be a great time to do so while the car is free. I think the interior is probably the weakest section of the model, with only enough space for one passenger" Under the bonnet you’ll find a very basic motor, using a 2×2 moulded engine element, it’s a very nice touch and one that LEGO didn’t really to include but glad they did. The other is the somewhat hidden boot/trunk inside the Taxi itself, located just behind the passenger seat. The included suitcase fits perfectly in this space and happily rests in place secured by the use of a 1×2 yellow cheese slope. There's not much to find fault with other than that it's a shame that it does not come with both driver and passenger minifigs. Looking at the box design with the shared sand green strip, and the design of the taxi, and just how well it fits into the Boutique Hotel, it’s clear that LEGO probably meant for the Vintage Taxi GWP to be released alongside the Boutique Hotel at launch on 1 January, but supply chain delays probably meant that they couldn’t make the timing work. Including a Minifigure in these GWP sets is always a nice touch and one we’ve come to appreciate, as not only are most exclusive, or at least exclusive combinations of parts, to the set and pull in collectors, but they’re an important part of the whole play experience For those of you that hate vehicles in modular sets (there have only been three so I don't understand what all the whinging is about), I would like to know how this taxi would have 'completely ruined' Boutique Hotel, had it been included?

Yeah, he probably just likes donuts. Enough to carry them around in a briefcase. (In fact, this could be the Donut Thief from the Police Station Modular!) When this set was revealed, I found the taxi decidedly underwhelming, based primarily on its seemingly awkward shape. However, this model is more attractive than I expected and I think the first image was unflattering. The proportions of the vehicle are realistic and the curvature of its bonnet and windscreen looks superb, which is something LEGO cars often struggle with. I think a lot of people would have... It would be another "Maersk-blue construction hat situation". I find the inconsistency between modular cars very strange. The diner gets one where two people could sit side by side, but then the garage gets something like you’d find in City. I know this GWP isn’t a defacto modular set, but it’s a pity it isn’t wider. I’d always hoped we might get something like ER0L’s fantastic designs to buy one day. (I wish I could figure out how to reverse engineer some of those. Alas…)" A perfect addition to the Modular Boutique Hotel, and a great incentive to pull the trigger on it if you haven’t got one!Not if the passenger has any luggage (especially not the new air-friendly rolling suitcase). Driver’s got to have someplace to stash the giant lunch he’s carrying. The same can't perhaps be said for LEGO's marketing of it, though. It requires an astronomical spend to obtain it, and it's unfortunate that it was not available as soon as 10297 Boutique Hotel was released at the beginning of the year. Early adopters of the new modular, for which it was clearly designed to complement, may feel short-changed. Regarding the 60312 police interceptor, my dad was a gearhead growing up in Detroit, and sometimes mentions that there was a car shop on Woodward Ave that could modify your car so even the cops couldn’t catch it. And then the cops took their cars to the same shop. The single minifigure included in this set doesn’t have any unique pieces, but the combination is new, making him one of those “somewhat exclusive” characters. His head has had 11 other appearances across many themes. (In fact, this is the clone of the chef from the 10260 Downtown Diner.)
