About this deal

Strawberries & cream - Sugar, vegetable fats, cocoa butter, whole milk powder, skimmed milk powder, cocoa mass, lactose, milk fat, cream powder, strawberry powder, emulsifier & natural flavourings. When the child sees “red, red, RED!”, the patient mummy surrounds them with love and teaches them to take a deep breath and count to ten instead. It covers all the basics of the mum species – from their different names around the world to the many ways to be one – along with a breakdown of the special likes, dislikes and natural habitats of different ‘types’ (like Chatty, Sporty and Zen).

While the images show the parent hunting for her keys, trying to cook with a toddler hanging off her leg and half-heartedly playing hide-and-seek by covering her face with a book, her daughter’s adoration and appreciation for her care shines through in the words. Here are some stories about the brilliance of mums so your offspring can celebrate your worth, not just on Mother’s Day but on every day. Following on from her brilliant Gas & Air blog, midwife Clemmie shares her knowledge about pregnancy and birth with humour and honesty. This handy week-by-week guide to pregnancy includes stories about her own three pregnancies as well as relatable anecdotes from friends and readers. 3. Hurrah for Gin: A Book for Perfectly Imperfect Parents, by Katie Kirby

6. The Mother Book, by Molly Gunn (Selfish Mother)

Big emotions can be overwhelming for small people as anyone who has dealt with toddler tantrums or stroppy three-nagers knows. But this clever book by acclaimed author Polly Dunbar offers a simple way to help them find some calm.

Mums know it can be exhausting carry the load alone – mentally as well as physically – and this beautiful story does a sensitive job of explaining why some days they need a little TLC. While we adore our children, some days the word “Mum” could be interchanged for “Servant” (or “Mug”), especially since the pandemic hit and disproportionately impacted on our mental and physical demands in the home. This board books takes the spirit of Dahl’s work and way with words, paring it with some of Blake’s illustrations for a phizz-whizzing celebration of all mothers do. While Jools is now a mum-of-five, her book about her first pregnancy is a down-to-earth account that many first-time mums will relate to. She writes openly about facing the unfamiliar emotions and physical changes that pregnancy brings about. 6. The Mother Book, by Molly Gunn (Selfish Mother) One day a little girl notices her eyes are different from her friends. Theirs are round with long eyelashes but hers kiss in the corners and crinkle into crescent moons. They cheer a cloudy day like Little Miss Sunshine, entertain you like Little Miss Fun and give good advice like Little Miss Wise. Being a mum sometimes feels like working for the most ungrateful boss with never-ending demands, no holidays and terrible pay.

If, like us, you’ve fallen head over bump for Giovanna while watching her weekly vlogs, then you’ll love her first non-fiction book. It’s a moving account of her journey through motherhood, from struggling with PCOS to the present day, written with her trademark warmth and positivity. 2. How to Grow a Baby and Push it Out, by Clemmie Hooper Sarah's hilarious book about motherhood follows the huge success of her 'Unmumsy Mum' blog. Refreshingly honest it will have you weeping with laughter and prepare you for parenthood's less glamorous truths. 5. Minus Nine to One: The Diary of an Honest Mum, by Jools Oliver

2. How to Grow a Baby and Push it Out, by Clemmie Hooper

The legendary Shirley Hughes is one of the great observers of children and their families, as her much-loved Alfie stories and award-winning Dogger testify. And she puts the same realistic but tender touch to this simple book about all the things a little girl loves about spending time with her mum. Selfish Mother's amazing support for Tommy's with her Good Tees might make us a little biased, but regardless of the fact she is one of our personal favourites, 'The Mother Book' is a reassuring read for mums-to-be. It will remind you that you're not alone, and that the ups and downs of pregnancy and parenthood are felt by women everywhere. 7. What Every Parent Needs to Know, by Dr Margot Sunderland

Mums are so many wonderful things and this novelty book takes the characteristics of the cast of Little Misses to show just how brilliant they truly are. From fixing vacuum cleaners and knitting spacesuits to do wheelies on bikes and telling the best stories, there are many reasons why mums are fantastic. This uplifting rhyming book is as comfy as Mummy’s cuddles, illustrating all the fun and care she showers on Zeki on their days together. But eventually the whole juggle will involve one too many balls, the whole thing will topple and she needs her loved ones to help her get things straight again.

This witty but tender ‘spotter’s guide’ to mums is perfect for slightly older kids, and a great way to open up discussions about how much mums do if you are feeling under appreciated. How does Milo’s mum always seem to know when he is doing something he shouldn’t? She looks ordinary but perhaps she is hiding a secret superhero identity…
