We’re talking Quest 2 exclusive games like Resident Evil 4, which is currently available, in addition to hotly anticipated games like Ghostbusters VR, the classic hit GTA San Andreas VR, and Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed VR. These last few are scheduled to launch sometime in the near future, but only on Meta’s hardware. The Quest 2 doesn’t come with any form of portable storage for the headset. The Oculus Rift Sis a tethered VR headset designed to work with a PC, offering the same functions as the original Riftwhile streamlining and improving several things. It features a per eye, 1,280-by-1,440 resolution with an 80Hz refresh rate, and uses your PC for processing. This means that the Rift S handles impressive graphics that wouldn't necessarily work on a standalone headset. It connects to PCs via DisplayPort (not HDMI), so some gaming laptopsare incompatible with the headset.
While Skyrim is available on all manner of platforms, VR is arguably one of the newer and more interesting ways to experience the stellar open-world game. It also mixes up the playstyle of the game, with ‘realistic’ controls letting you slash away at draugrs and dragons by actually swinging your arm. All VR headsets have a fairly similar design; a display covers your eyes and is attached to your head via straps. But within those parameters, two headsets can still look fairly different. The first option is by AMVR, pictured above. I’ve got this stand myself and it’s a fantastic if you want something simple and inexpensive that blends in and matches the clean white aesthetic. The two arms that hold the Touch controllers are also optional, so if you’d rather remove them and have the controllers sitting upside down beside the Quest, that’s an option too. There are two kinds of Chromecasts — the Chromecast and the Chromecast Ultra. The only difference between the two is that the latter allows you to play 4K content. The Quest does not output a 4K stream when casting, so you probably won’t see any difference there. However, if you have a 4K TV then the Ultra will provide you with the best quality stream for most other Chromecast media like Netflix and YouTube.
This might be the most unconventional accessory on the list, but a VR-ready PC is truly one of the best (and most expensive) Oculus Quest 2 accessories you can buy. A VR-ready PC will allow you to play PC VR content (like Half-Life: Alyx and Skyrim VR) on your Oculus Quest or Quest 2 via USB on Oculus Link or wirelessly using Air Link or Virtual Desktop ( head here to find out how). Even though it’s now past its 10-year anniversary, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is still very much a game you should try in virtual reality. You’ll need to connect the Meta Quest 2 to a gaming PC or laptop, albeit not a hugely powerful one given the game’s age. And it’s not superbly optimized for cutting-edge VR use. The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners is the Quest’s first AAA single-player game. This herculean effort combines a lengthy campaign, satisfying physics and realistic environments for an immersive horror experience. You’ll sneak, shoot and scavenge your way through a zombie-filled New Orleans with every major choice you make resulting in equally hefty consequences. The big benefit of the Rift S is its store. It uses the PC-based Oculus Store, which has had a few years to build up an impressive library of games and apps. There are lots of compelling experiences to try here, including a more feature-complete and potentially moddable version of Beat Saber. If the Oculus Store isn't enough, you can also browse SteamVR for even more games (though be prepared to wrestle with settings to get the two platforms to work with each other). The emphasis here is on the future, as in several years away. That brings us to the second biggest reason the HoloLens and Magic Leap One aren't in this list: They aren't consumer products. Both devices are purely intended as development hardware, so AR software can be made for their platforms. Considering each headset costs several thousand dollars, you shouldn't expect a large library of AR experiences for a while. Outside of specific enterprise and education uses, AR headsets are an early adopter playground at best, and not for most people. The Oculus Rift S improves on the previous Rift headset with a sharper screen and a camera array that doesn't require external sensors. Difficult boss fights will undoubtedly drive you mad. Coming better prepared to a fight with improved gear and prevailing however is pure ecstasy. If you love the sweet torture of Soulsborne games, you’ll be playing Until You Fall.
The only letdown is that the Pico 4’s display offers a max variable refresh rate of 90Hz, while the Oculus Quest 2 can get up to 120Hz. It should be noted that very few Quest 2 experiences currently support 120Hz gameplay, so most of the time you aren’t getting a framerate that smooth.
