About this deal

Sir Michael Marsh: Well, it had to be somewhere out of the way. And there's an underground river that runs through the wood. That was the main reason. A nuclear power station requires a constant supply of water, you see. Chaos is the King of the Old Ones and is the main antagonist of the entire series. The King was not actually named Chaos, but the ancient human resistance gave him that name, due to his motivations. Chaos seeks to destroy humanity and conquer the Earth, in doing so reshaping the Earth in his own dark, poisonous image. If he could have succeeded ten thousand years ago, Chaos would have reduced the world to an empty swamp. Even though Chaos has been thrown from the world by the power of Five, his influence still remains throughout the human race. A graphic novel adaptation written for Walker Books by UK writer Tony Lee and drawn by artists Dom Reardon and Lee O'Connor was released on 3 August 2010. It was then re-issued with a new cover to coincide with then upcoming releases of the graphic novel adaptations for Evil Star and Nightrise on 6 June 2013. The Nexus is a highly secret group of powerful and influential people with some link to the supernatural world who prevent the Old Ones re-entering planet Earth. They tell Matt that he is one of the Gatekeepers in Raven's Gate and help Matt and Pedro with the gate's whereabouts in Evil Star. In Nightrise, only one member of the Nexus, Natalie Johnson, appears near the end of the book. She helps Jamie and Scott Tyler escape after a near assassination of a presidential candidate in Auburn, California. The Nightrise Corporation is a group trying to resurrect the Old Ones so they can have power in the new world. They are the primary antagonists of Nightrise and Necropolis, and are one of the major antagonists of Oblivion.

In the second novel, Evil Star, Richard left his job as a journalist for the Greater Malling Gazette and worked on another newspaper, The Gipton Echo. He agrees to go to Peru with Matt and gets separated from Matt when their taxi from the airport was ambushed by the Incas, who were actually preventing them from being captured by the police. He stays at Vilcabamba, the lost city of the Incas, and reunites with Matt who went to the Nazca Lines to find the second gate. The Incas gifted him a tumi, a sacrificial sword which possesses an ancient magic thus making the sword visible only to him, but with a warning that when the time would come to use it he would regret it. Richard now believes Matt's story because he remembers Omega One and says there were sections of the story he "couldn't get out of his head". Since Matt suspects that there is something odd about Omega One, they meet with the engineer who designed and built it, Sir Michael Marsh, but find out nothing except how a nuclear power plant works. Matt and Richard then go to visit Elizabeth Ashwood, the author of the book in the library. Elizabeth Ashwood is revealed to have died, but her daughter Susan is there. She advises them to go meet Professor Sanjay Dravid in London after Matt demands to know about Raven's Gate. She also tells them that she and Dravid are part of an organization known as the Nexus.

Development log

How the gatekeepers along with their companions jumped ten years in time when they entered the door in Tai Shan Temple, Hong Kong, is unclear but it is believed to have something to do with the door being destroyed whilst they were travelling through it. He also mentions that the late Nightrise agent Diego Salamander used his satellite to open the gate in the Nazca Desert, and how the Five have been reborn on the other side of time, and that the Old Ones have built Fortress Oblivion, in Antarctica. He also states that the Old Ones have double-crossed their rich associates, saying they will fight for their evil cause. This results in a riot in the UN, with twenty members of the "higher circle" dead and the rest consigned to militia training camps. Raven's Gate is the first of five books in The Power Of Five series, written by Anthony Horowitz. It was published and released in the UK on 1 August 2005, by Walker Books Ltd and in the US (June 1, 2005) by Scholastic Press under the adjusted series title Scarlett bears a strong resemblance to and is described by some as Lin Mo, the Chinese goddess of the sea. Her previous incarnation, also called Scarlett but known as Scar, found Jamie when he was transported to the past. Scarlett has the power of Weather manipulation, including forecasting, as well as astral projection. [ citation needed] Other characters [ edit ] Richard Cole (introduced in Raven's Gate) [ edit ]

Alcohol: Steven, a juvenile crime specialist looking after Matt’s welfare, drinks two miniature whiskeys on the train. Richard has a beer at his home.

Keep in touch

Lohan appears in the fourth and fifth books of the series, Necropolis and Oblivion. He is Incense Master in the White Lotus Society and his father is Master of the Mountain. He is appointed as Scarlett Adams’ protector during the events of Necropolis. In Oblivion, he ends up with Matt in Brazil, where he sells Matt to become a slave, takes the money, and rescues him. He almost abandoned Matt at a gold mine to save himself, but Matt stops him. [ citation needed] Holly (introduced in Oblivion) [ edit ] After a celebratory dinner, the Five decide to return to the Dreamworld. Although Richard is heartbroken that Matt will leave, even though he is not the same Matt that he knew. Matt and the others leave travelling past Oblivion where the Dreamworld lies, in the frozen wastes. The Dreamworld seems to have healed and turns from shades of grey into colourful being. Matt meets the Librarian again, who has with him a woman, who appears to each of the Gatekeepers differently. For Matt she looks like his mother, on the day she left for a friend's wedding and when she died after their car fell off a bridge into a river. It is possible that Matt could have some kind of divine name as the past battle with the Old Ones was so long ago that myth may have been passed down depicting Matt as a god or another celestial being. Indeed, this is highly likely as Pedro's past life, Inti, was worshiped by the Incas, in Scar's past life, she was Lin Mo, the Chinese goddess of the sea, and in Jamie and Scott's past lives, they were the Iroquois Indian gods, Sapling and Flint. The four of them represent South America, Asia, and North America, respectively, with Matt representing Europe. [ citation needed]

Matt figures out Lesser Malling is a town full of witches who murdered people and covered it up, and who are trying to open Raven’s Gate. Matt meets the only normal guy in town, Tom Burgess, who told him he needed to leave town. Matt finds Tom’s dead body in his house with Raven’s Gate written on the wall in green paint, but when the cops come the people from the town had already covered up Raven’s Gate with more green paint and hid the body somewhere. Because Matt was a criminal, no one believed him about seeing a dead person, especially when the other people told the cops that there was no body and the man was fine. Matt meets Sanjay Dravid while looking for Raven’s Gate. Sanjay tells Matt that he is part of the Nexus, a secret society. Sanjay informs Matt of Raven’s Gate, the Old Ones, and the prophecy he thinks is about Matt and four other children like him. Sanjay is murdered by reanimated dinosaur bones. After that Mrs. Deverill captures Matt. Sanjay also told Matt that the witches would open Raven’s Gate with a ritual, fire, and Matt’s blood! At the end of Necropolis, Scarlett is shot in the head by a Nightrise agent. She is then paired with Richard Cole when they went through the door in Tai Shan Temple, and arrives in Egypt 10 years later. She is immediately operated upon and soon after, recovered from the bullet wound. Then they went to Dubai with Richard and reached Oblivion via an aeroplane. An unnamed senator in the American Democratic Party who never speaks during any of the group's meetings. Audrey Cheng is an antagonist in book four Necropolis. She is introduced when Scarlett arrives at Hong Kong airport and Scarlett takes an instant dislike to her. Although she is a woman she has the physique of a man with broad shoulders. Meanwhile, Scarlett Adams takes an airplane to Hong Kong to meet her father, who works for Nightrise. As Scarlett is about to go she finds out that John Trelawny has lost the election and that it is suspected that Nightrise has rigged the ballots.
