Further to the perils of Nocturne numerous forms of highly evolved and adapted predator species and mega-fauna hardened themselves by the environment of this foreboding world and the struggle to survive there. That Human life was able to survive on Nocturne is a testament both to the persistence and sheer will to live that is the true strength of Mankind.In celebration of the primarch's victory over the Drukhari, a tournament of various contests involving tests of strength and craftsmanship common to the people of Nocturne was held. During the opening ceremonies in the year 832.M30 by the Imperial Calendar, a stranger appeared. His skin was unusually pale, compared to the dark, swarthy complexions of the people of Nocturne, and his clothes were very strange, made of materials unfamiliar to the pre-industrial Nocturneans.

Salamanders Warforged Strike Force In the world of Blood Bowl, a pair of truly classic Star Players are returning to the pitch after a long absence, sporting brand new models to boot! Upon the start of a new campaign, each Salamander builds his own pyre, separate from his battle-brothers and leaves, returning when the flames are at their apex. In solitude, they anoint their armour and focus upon the key tenets of the Promethean Cult. [5a] Salamanders Gene-Seed is highly unique and mysterious in origin. Along with the Space Wolves and Alpha Legion, the Salamanders had unique gene-seed created for a specific purpose by the Emperor. This "Trefoil" were all kept apart and distinct from the other Legions during the Unification Wars and Great Crusade. There are none save the Emperor and a handful of his aides who know what the exact purpose behind this policy was. [38]

According to the Dark Krakens member Patara, a large number of Salamanders Successor Chapters were created during the Ultima Founding. His Ultima Chapter was not given the exact number of Successors, though, and he only knew of the Dragonspears and Iron Drakes. [55] This time, these Battleforces are all for the first founding chapters, as Warhammer Community unveiled the new box sets and what you can score in each! We also don’t know the price of these yet, but they seem slightly lower in value than the Christmas Battleforces, so we’ll have to look at the prices for overall value for now, as the retail price has not been announced yet. The Salamanders led an effort that succeeded in halting a Daemonic ritual that would have summoned Angron to Armageddon. [42]

M39 - The Fires of Phaistos. The entire Salamanders chapter mobilizes to defend the Cardinal World of Phaistos Osiris from Ork invasion. Together with an army of trained scholars, the Salamanders set an intricate and subtle series of traps and ambushes to destroy the Ork force, culminating in the Ork assault on the capital city Sanctis's Great Basilica, which was countered by flooding the city with promethium, which was subsequently set alight, destroying the majority of the Ork invasion. [6a] In many of these cases, the warriors of the Legion would be the only Space Marine contingent taking part in the conflict, forcing them into close co-operation with other Human forces (often in a command and spearhead role), and inevitably plunged them directly into the heaviest fighting and most hazardous theatres of battle.

Nocturne is a Death World, a turbulent volcanic orb riven with fire, radiation and subject to destructive tidal forces caused by its moon, Prometheus. Nocturne is vastly rich in mineral wealth, particularly in gemstones and precious metals, but sparse in the stability of climate or the abundance of organic flora which makes Human life readily possible.

The Burning Walk - An ancient ritual of trial, the Burning Walk is undertaken by an individual as a solitary pilgrimage into the vast Pyre Desert of Nocturne. Usually, the aged, infirm or crippled pursue such a path with the intention of ending their last days in fire. Some Salamanders may choose to undertake the journey as a means of restoring a troubled soul or die in the attempt. To date, only one Salamander has ever returned from the Burning Walk - Apothecary Fugis of the 3rd Company. [30] Add The Crucible of Battlestratagem, which grants an additional +1 to wound in any phase, or Adrax Agatone’s Unto the Anvil aura which applies a similar buff to charging units, and you have a melee unit that can remove almost any vehicle in the game in one round of combat. The extent to which the dictates of the Codex Astartes were adhered to in the aftermath of the break-up of the old Legions varied much, and the Salamanders appear to have obeyed it in some respects, while ignoring it in others. The fielding of only seven, over-strength companies by the Chapter is one example of this, though in other respects the Chapter is largely compliant with Roboute Guilliman's tome.
