About this deal

edition is on the way, and with it a whole raft of changes to the factions of Warhammer 40,000. With the Munitorum Field Manual out in the wild and the Faction FAQs released, now’s a good time to start taking a look at what’s changed for all of our favourite armies. Today, Cyle “Naramyth” Thompson is looking at the Adeptus Mechanicus.

The cybernetic Skitarii Rangers are completely subservient to the cause of the Adeptus Mechanicus, showcasing their faith in the Omnissiah through the persistent stalking of their prey. In their Warhammer 40K gameplay, Skitarii Rangers are some of the Mechanicus’ most versatile units much like the Space Marines, with both its Skitarii Ranger and a Skitarii Ranger Alpha components capable of replacing their Galvanic Rifle with a myriad of weapons. These opportunities to change weapons allow Rangers to take down troops or even vehicles with tactical precision - making them quite a steal for 9 Points per unit. (Posted on 30/11/2019) (Last accessed 30 November 2019) Castellan • Colossus • Cataphract • Crusader • Conqueror • Vorax • Hunter-Killer • Thanatar • Scyllax Guardian • Kastelan • Domitar • Arlatax • Vultarax Bloodthirsters dropped substantially – the Wrath of Khorne Bloodthirster is now only PL 12, while the Unfettered Fury is 13 and the Insensate Rage is 14. This drop from 17 makes Bloodthirsters much, much easier to summon, though you’ll now face the challenge of getting off a successful charge with them the turn they arrive. Skarbrand dropped by 2, making him easier to summon but still so difficult that you probably wouldn’t bother unless you had 4 dice or a re-roll going.

Serberys Sulphurhounds

Skitarii Rangers/Skitarii Vanguard down to 5PL from 7PL for a max unit of 10 (and units of 5 are down to 3PL from 4PL).. Skitarii Marshal [3 PL, 45pts]: Mechanicus Locum, Warlord Trait (Codex 5): Firepoint Telemetry Cache You might notice a few references to Imperial Knights in the AdMech codex. Adeptus Mechanicus are in a unique spot in the Imperium, as they have special ties to Imperial Knights in the fluff, with fully half the Knight Households being devoted to the Machine God specifically rather than the Imperium in general. To represent this, AdMech can grant Knights access to Canticles of the Omnissiah, as described above. It’s all fun and games until the 12 meter war machine gains light cover or gets a free reroll of a hit, wound, and damage dice.

Bullgryns came down in PL a little, to 5 for the minimum size squad, though going up to 6 will cost you 10 PL and still mean 2 CP for reserves. A max size squad is now 15 PL. Ogryns also came down, but now 4-6 of those will only be 8 CP, leaving you room to outflank them for only 1 CP. The big concerns with Astra Militarum are going to be around putting units into Strategic Reserves. The faction’s major Troop choices – Infantry Squads and Militarum Tempestus Scions – were unchanged, so that leaves tanks to talk about, and most of those either didn’t change or didn’t change enough to matter. There are only two changes that immediately jump out when looking at the Imperial Guard:

Let’s Build Some Lists

The Terrax Drill, however. They must have forgotten about our sweet drill boy. Going up exactly 2 points the drill still carries 12 bodies, has a couple storm bolters, a d3 melta gun, and 6 S14 Thunderhammer swings it wants to tell you all about. It is a little slower than the Dunerider, only going 10” compared to 12”, does not get canticles, but is T8 and is only 36 points more than the Dunerider. All hail our new drill over underlords. The following information is not to be regarded as officially sanctioned and/ or is not written from an in-universe point of view. A detailed explanation of the term "Trivia" as used in the Lexicanum can be found here.

The Transcendent C’Tan comes down by 2 to 10 PL but it isn’t enough to get them over the threshold ot cheap outflanking. Balisteria: Artillery units. The range of artillery goes from Thudd guns to the massive Ordinatus pieces. This includes both the vehicle/machine, as well as the crews manning them. [Needs Citation] Sicarian Ruststalkers down to 4PL from 6PL for 5 models. 10 Ruststalkers are now 8PL instead of 12PL. Ruststalkers are still bad. For the Thousand Sons most of our units can either Teleport or be put into the Webway, but there are a few units where PL changes are worth noting and the changes to Daemons may also be important. They’re also a great faction to collect. They have some of the most unique models in all of Warhammer 40,000 and some of the strongest firepower that humanity can wield in the Shooting phase. But don’t think that having incredible guns means they don’t have equally incredible melee. They have a little bit of everything, and they are a great faction to get started with. With our annual New Year, New Army challenge* creeping closer, it’s a phenomenal opportunity to lay the groundwork on your next hobby project. And since these battleforces will be arriving in December, they’re perfect candidates for any Warhammer+ vouchers you’ve been earning this month . Flamers and Screamers both dropped by 1 PL each, making them trivially easy to summon a base unit on 2D6 and potentially worth looking at a larger unit size on 3D6. In this box, a Captain and his entourage of Bladeguard Veterans lead a balanced heavy infantry force of 10 Intercessors, 10 Assault Intercessors, and five Heavy Intercessors. Meanwhile, a fast and agile Storm Speeder Hailstrike is perfect for flanking enemy forces, or taking down hard targets when built either as the Hammerstrike or Thunderstrike variant.

If every model in an INFANTRY unit is on or in an Area Terrain feature with this trait, then it can either Hold Steady or it can Set to Defend (see below) when an enemy unit declares a charge against it. Most importantly, the Contorted Epitome went up from 10 PL to 11, making it a bit less likely you’ll summon one on a standard roll of 3D6. It’s not devastating, but it’s something to keep in mind if that was part of your strategy (the average roll on 3D6 is 10.5). Finally, the slot fillers, The Datasmith, Servitors, and humble X-22 went up in points. They sure exist. All six of these battleforces are coming this December, so stay tuned to Warhammer Community for more details.Praetorians: These are the elite of the Skitarii. They are super-enhanced (bionically/cybernetically/chemically/genetically etc) humans who are augmented with a huge array of cybernetics and heavy weapons. They are, essentially, a sort of counterpart to Obliterators. However, many old sources also suggest that Praetorians are instead an elite Skitarii type following the fashion of Imperial Guard stormtrooper units, but with slightly more augmentations, putting them somewhere "between" storm troopers and Space Marines. All of these are completely plausible, and based on the preferences of the Magi who build them. [Conflicting sources] The equipment can vary massively based on which Magos, Mechanicus Organisation or Forge World has raised and equipped them. There is little standardisation or central command of Skitarii across the Mechanicus, as each individual regiment is the personal army of a particular Magos. For example, the Skitarii of the Titan Legion Legio Invicta are gene-bulked humans with weaponised limbs and augmetic armour [4], whereas a different type of Skitarii investigated the dead world of Tarsis Ultra, and were seen to be wearing something similar in both function and design to Terminator armour.
