About this deal

Upon opening SignalScope Pro, it will detect the presence of the connected UMIK-1 and query you for its serial number:

Please note: miniDSP cannot provide support for third-party applications or hardware. This app note shows you how to set up the miniDSP UMIK-1 to use with SignalScope Pro but other functions of the Apple iPad or the SignalScope Pro app are beyond the scope of miniDSP support. Next stage is to configure the ASIO source. We'll select the miniDSP ASIO driver(previously installed) and follow the below example configuration. Recommended values of reverberation time depend on the type of system (e.g. music or home theater), the size of the room, and the type of speaker. However, 300 ms to 500 ms (0.3 to 0.5 seconds) is a commonly recommended range. It can be seen that this room is within this range but towards the high end for a good part of the frequency band. miniDSP assembled some very comprehensive steps by steps for the UMIK-1 for all sorts of applications. Please make sure to start reading our application notes to be up and running in no time! Umik-1 on Ipad: Our technical team has been testing the UMIK-1 along with few ipad apps. A plug&play setup for a full featured measurement + SPL meter running from the Ipad. The UMIK-2 is of course fully compatible with REW (Room EQ Wizard) and Dirac Live (version 3 and later). Driverless operation with macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, and a supplied ASIO driver for Windows ensure simple integration into many other measurement and recording applications. With the UMIK-2, miniDSP once agains stretch the limits of affordable acoustic measurement gear. Let the measurement fun begin! Features The UMIK-1 is an omni-directional USB measurement microphone providing Plug & Play acoustic measurement. From speaker & room acoustic measurement to recording, this microphone provides low noise and accurate results you can rely on. Forget about driver installation, OS compatibility and un-calibrated mics. The Umik-1 is a USB Audio class 1 device automatically recognized by all Operating Systems (Windows/Mac) and Ipad with Camera Connection Kit. It is provided with a unique calibration file based on the serial number to insure an accurate measurement. Combined with our recommended acoustic measurement software, it is the perfect match for a plug&play measurement system. The following links contain additional information on room acoustics and measurement that you may find helpful: For multichannel system (E.g. 5.1/7.1) or a surround application where multiple speakers are spreadout around the room, use the 90deg file and point the UMIK-1 at the ceiling. REW: miniDSP worked along with John Mulcahy to develop even greater compatibility for the UMIK-1 inside REW! With the latest beta release of REW (v5.01 and up), the UMIK-1 is automatically recognized by the software and prompted for use when REW is started with the microphone plugged in. Asynchronous USB Audio Class 2 Bidirectional streaming with ASIO drivers under Windows, driverless under MAC OSx It’s the same ODM as the Behringer, but the build quality is better, and they are more stable in a wider range of temperatures and humidities. You also get a calibration file for each individual mic. I’ve measured up to 125 dB linear without the mic capsule distorting too, which beats the Behringer ECM8000 I’ve tested. For multichannel system (E.g. 5.1/7.1) or a surround application where multiple speakers are spreadout around the room, use the 90deg file and point the UMIK-2 at the ceiling. Based on another thread it might also be that your signal level is a bit low for the UMIK-2. Are your results repeatable?

The main measurement plot shows a frequency measurement graph in red. At the left is a small "thumbnail" version of the measurement - each time you make a new measurement, a new thumbnail will appear here. At the top of the screen are buttons that access various tools and immediately above the measurement is a row of tabs that show different "views" of the measurement. DSP equalization can't change reverberation time. Heavy drapes and carpets will reduce reverberation time, but if you need to go further, then dedicated acoustic treatment may be required.I own some Earthworks M23, M30 and isemCON EMX-7150 as well as the dbx RTA mic, and the aforementioned Behringer. I also regularly use very expensive B&K mics and preamps. For most field work, I use the three Sonarworks mics I own, because they’re good enough for 90% of the audible range and multi-mic measurements are the way forward. Did you definitely have the correct calibration file for the orientation of the microphone in each case? Getting this wrong for one of the microphones could cause this sort of difference I think. In this application note, we will show you how to integrate a subwoofer with your existing loudspeakers by using a miniDSP 2x4 HD. You can use an existing preamp, or replace a preamp and a DAC with the miniDSP 2x4 HD. (In the latter case, you will need to program a remote control to adjust volume in the miniDSP 2x4 HD.) I/O capabilities get an upgrade too, with the addition of USB audio streaming up to 192 kHz and a TOSLINK digital input. The miniDSP 2x4 HD will find application in full-sized hifi and home theater systems, on desktops, in cars, in recording studios — anywhere a compact, simple, yet surprisingly powerful DSP audio processor is needed.

A dialog box will prompt you to name the source. We'll call it ambiMIK-1 for the purpose of this demo. REW: miniDSP once agains partners with John Mulcahy to develop even greater compatibility for the UMIK-2 inside REW! With the latest REW version (Beta , the UMIK-2 is automatically recognized by the software and prompted for use when REW is started with the microphone plugged in.Why is the graph so uneven? Shouldn't we have a flat frequency response? Mostly, it's because of the room. Room modes (resonances) and reflections in a room act to make a nice flat loudspeaker response into a roller-coaster. Tap on Sig Gen at the bottom of the screen. You can experiment with the different types of test signal here. For now, set it as shown below, adjusting the volume so that it plays through the system at a comfortable level. Ensure that the signal generator is enabled at the top right, and turn signal generation on and off with Play/Pause button (next to the Headphones label at the top left. Adjust the level with the iPad volume control and the Noise Amplitude slider, and use the Noise Pan control to send output to only one speaker. At this stage the steps to start your YouTube/Facebook/Twitch Live stream or recording a local stream will be similar to any stereo content. If you're not familiar with setting up OBS for Youtube/Facebook live, we recommend you follow some of the great step by step guides to get you started knowing this is a common question. Here are some great examples: You're now up and running with the ambiMIK-1 streaming into OBS. Next stage is to configure the Dirac Live VST plugin so we're converting the ambisonic signal from the 4 mic capsules to a binaural signal one can enjoy with a headphone. 3. Configure the ambiMIK-1 VST plugin [Top]
