PowerToys release notesData Analysis Expressions (DAX) DAX is a formula language that extends the data manipulation capabilities of Excel to enable more sophisticated and complex grouping, calculation, and analysis. The syntax of DAX formulas is very similar to that of Excel formulas. If the data in those reports also needs to be transformed (remove rows, split columns, unpivot, etc.), then Power Query can handle that in the same process. In this demonstration we will look at creating standard pivot tables. When creating a standard pivot table, it is often necessary to preform several VLOOKUPs to pull data from other tables into the one table. This can be rather heavy on resources, especially if you have a large set of data. This is a limitation of standard pivot tables. Another limitation is once you create a standard pivot table, you do not have the option to move the data from the pivot table into different places on your workbook.
Office 2016: I'm afraid you will have to hold on a little longer. Power BI can only be used with ProPlus versions of Office and Microsoft recently confirmed this might not be released until early 2016. There are details for administrators right here. Ablebits Ultimate Suite for Microsoft Excel has been a time-saver and an Excellent addition for my large data requirements. Rarely do I find a product that warrants spending on Excel, but this add-in is really valuable for a very reasonable cost. It installed like a charm, is intuitive, and I found customer service to be very responsive and helpful. James Kennedy, 6-Jul-22 We couldn't imagine being without this tool!There are many different ways to create this relationship in Excel. As you mentioned, VLOOKUP is one way to do it with formulas. It is based on the M language, and most of the functions are very similar to writing a formula in Excel. This also makes it more user friendly and easier to learn the code. It also does a pretty good job of handling errors. If the structure of your source data changes, Power Query will tell you what step it broke at and allow you to fix it. This makes maintenance easy and you don’t have to completely redo your process when something changes.
