About this deal

The Fellow Ode has vertically-mounted 64mm flat stainless steel burrs that run on a PID-controlled motor. These burrs are impressive for a domestic grinder, as you’ll often find them in commercial grinders for espresso. Because burrs of this type are in the Fellow Ode – a grinder targeting the domestic market for filter brewing – it stands out from its rivals. When redesigning the Ode grinder, the main focus was - of course - the burrs. Both models feature the same sized 64mm stainless steel flat burrs, but Gen 2 burrs boast a new two-stage grinding geometry. The result - a sweeter cup, with more balance and clarity than ever before. I had this product for more than 2 months now and went trough several bags of coffee, including dark roast and medium roast (I did Moka Pot, Aeropress and French Press). Overall I am quite happy with it as I switched from Cuisinart DBM-8 and there is not even a comparison between the two. The Gen 2 burrs seem to deal well with a range of roast levels, producing a balanced flavor profile. The cups are sweet and balanced with a heavier body and medium clarity. This 120V model is only compatible with outlets in the US and Canada. To find an international retailer near you, head HERE. Ode Brew Grinder is not an espresso grinder nor suitable for moka pots.

Bigger Load Bin: The new ground coffee catch bin is now 100g as opposed to 80g on the Gen 1. Better for bigger brew servings.

A new state of grind

The Fellow Ode Grinder is very easy to use. To grind, weigh out your beans, select your preferred grind setting, and press the start button. One of the very outstanding features of the Fellow Ode grinder is its auto-stop function. The grinder can detect zero resistance in the burrs and automatically turn it off. One thing to note is that the Ode Gen 2 burrs, although able to grind more finally, are still not designed for espresso brewing. Coffee Quality – Fellow Ode 2 Burrs vs. Original Burrs The Fellow Ode is well designed to be durable and compact. However, it has not stood the test of time. But given that Fellow is reputable for producing high-quality products, we expect nothing less of the Fellow Ode Grinder.

The original Fellow Ode has a solid reputation for the quality of its grinds – they are consistent among several brew methods, including drip coffee, French press, and cold brew. There is an issue, though. Many users noted that it isn’t able to grind fine enough using lightly roasted coffee beans. The Ode Brew Grinder Gen 2 focuses on getting the very best from your filter coffee. Its burr set and motor means that unfortunately, it's not suitable for espresso brewing. The new Fellow Opus takes on that responsibility instead, as well as being adaptable to a whole range of other brew methods. We'd also recommend the Eureka Mignon Specialitaas a great all-rounder which handles espresso very well. If espresso isn't on your mind, the Ode Gen 2 is a step up for folks who really want to experience all that a premium coffee grinder can offer. MEET THE NEW BURRS - With a unique two-stage grinding geometry, Gen 2 Brew Burrs produce a sweet, balanced, complex cup with enough clarity to respect the coffee. Whether you’re a light roast drinker looking to increase extraction yield, or a medium and dark roast lover seeking rich chocolate and toffee notes, these burrs have something for everyone. It’s pretty expensive. If you’ve got a tight budget for your coffee grinder, it will likely not fit into it.

If you’re in the market for a new grinder for filter coffee, the Fellow Ode Gen 2 is well worth considering. It offers a straightforward workflow and excellent grind quality across brewing methods, while the machine retains the sleek aesthetic of the original. As with any coffee grinder, it’s highly recommended that you regularly clean the Fellow Pro to keep it performing at its best. Through its various media channels, Fellow has been promising a user-friendly machine of compact footprint, exceptional quietness, near-zero grounds retention, stylish appearance and trailblazing particle size consistency, designed specifically for single-dose, non-espresso brewing (which in itself puts the Ode in a category all its own). Yet as clever and good-humored as it is when ginning up the crowd, Fellow also has legitimately earned a reputation for making good on its promises. If you’re grinding for AeroPress or Moka pot, we recommend using the finest setting (number one). Meanwhile, you can also use Fellow’s Prismo attachment on the AeroPress to brew an espresso-style shot with crema.
