About this deal

In Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, a bootleg version of Prince Eric appears with other bootleg versions of The Little Mermaid characters for a bootleg movie Sweet Pete had in mind "The Small Fish Lady". In this bootleg version, Eric is a bit of overweight and has a beard. He then rescues Ariel and defeats Ursula with the help of Sora, Donald, and Goofy. Upon her defeat, Ariel reveals to Eric about her true identity, but he admits that it does not change how he feels. The romantic scene makes King Triton finally change his mind and let his daughter be with a human prince. Like I said, this was mostly nothing new but that doesn't mean it wasn't satisfying as a read/retelling. I actually quite enjoyed everything and I'm only putting it at 4 stars because it follows SO closely to the movie that it didn't feel like it was very original a few times. The new twists and characters we meet make this worth reading though. I actually wish they'd pushed those into the movie because I loved seeing Eric like this.

Furthermore, Ariel is also present for a major part of the story, even though she has been absent in the beginning (aside from the prologue). She is as cute in the book as she is in the movie. She is also the kindest, most caring person, and has the ability to bring joy and ease to those around her. I love her with my whole heart. No wonder Eric fell in love with her in two days! She has her own problems with Ursula to deal with, as we all know, but that doesn't stop her from completely disregarding her deal to help others. Beauty and the Beast: Belle • Beast • Lumiere • Cogsworth • Mrs. Potts • Chip • Maurice • Philippe • Gaston • LeFouWhat I loved: This was such an engaging retelling of the story that breathes new life into it. The characters really come to life in the telling, and Eric in particular becomes more complex as he struggles with his curse and ruling his kingdom. The story is a little darker than the original, particularly with the Blood Tide and the arrival of ghosts cursed by the sea witch. These ghosts function like sirens trying to make bargains with the living ships by using the voices and appearances of their loved ones. These darker elements make it a really compelling read. The Princess and the Frog: Tiana • Louis • Ray • Dr. Facilier • Almost There Tiana • Prince Naveen • Platinum Tiana • Charlotte La Bouff In his first appearance, Eric, along with his man-servant Grimsby and crew of sailors are enjoying another day sailing out in the sea. Eric overhears sailors talking about King Triton, ruler of the merpeople, which makes him curious, but Grimsby brushes it off as nonsense.

What I loved about this book is it took the story of the Disney film and added so many extra elements. The story is told from Eric's perspective. We learn that he too is cursed and can't kiss anyone but his true love or else he dies. New elements of Ursula's power are added and creates a much stronger world building than what we were given in the 1989 film. Video Games: NES game • Sega Genesis Game • Ariel's Story Studio • Kingdom Hearts • Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories • Kingdom Hearts II • The Little Mermaid 2: Pinball Frenzy • Disney's The Little Mermaid: Magic in Two Kingdoms • Disney Emoji Blitz • Disney Heroes: Battle Mode Pocahontas: Pocahontas • Flit • Meeko • Percy • Grandmother Willow • Governor Ratcliffe • Colors of the Wind Pocahontas Prince of Song and Sea is the first of a series of YA retellings told from the perspective of the Disney Princes. This one is, of course, about Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid. I have never read any of these Disney retellings as I always thought I was outside the target demographic. But because The Little Mermaid was my favorite Disney movie from childhood, I just had to get this.

True YA, but will probably appeal to New Adults who are now Disney Adults as Xennials were 100% the target audience for Little Mermaid when it first came out.

I LOVED seeing their relationship fleshed out so fully and having them understand each other on a much deeper level. Wonky sign language charades and all. A new subplot in the stage musical is a singing competition where the eligible princesses in all the land are invited to sing for Eric. The princesses perform in the song "The Contest", which is set to the tune of Ariel's song "Part of Your World". Disney Characters introduced in Kingdom Hearts χ: Mad Hatter • March Hare • Razoul • Royal Guards • Maurice • Gaston Eric appears as one of the guests in the 2001-2003 animated television series House of Mouse, usually sitting next to Ariel. His notable appearance is in the episode " Goofy's Valentine Date", wherein that episode Ariel was seen staring affectionately at him. In the same scene, Goofy reads out the valentine specials on the menu, sobbing away his misery for not having Valentine's Day date. Captain Sauer: Pirate captain who raids the kingdom of Vellona and any passing ship without drawing blood to avoid the Blood Tide. The story was absolutely wonderful! A beautiful tale of curses (yes, Eric is ALSO cursed in this book!), adventure (ghost ships!), and romance- Ariel and Eric try and learn their own sign language together, how cute is that?! The Little Mermaid has been my favorite Disney movie since before I even remember watching movies. Naturally, that makes Prince Eric my favorite prince. I also joke that I suffer from "Prince Eric Syndrome", meaning the combination of blue eyes + dark hair is 100% my type. I married that type, so it must be true. Here's the deal: for this inaugural installment, Linsey Miller gives you the story of Disney's The Little Mermaid (primarily the animated film, but there are also nods to the Broadway musical) from Eric's POV. In the original Little Mermaid fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, the Prince is nameless and his love for the mermaid was strictly platonic.

Expert Musician: Eric is a highly skilled musician and is capable of playing a flute with admirable skill. There's a lot to like here, but I wish Ursula hadn't been the main villain, and that Miller hadn't had to fit the story into the original film so much. The more progressive updates with regards to diversity and the romance between Ariel and Eric (which, if canon, offer a nice "take that" to critics who call Little Mermaid sexist and harmful) do end up outweighing those, for me.Finding Nemo/ Finding Dory: Nemo • Dory • Hank • Crush • Bruce • Baby Dory • Destiny • Bailey • Pearl • Platinum Nemo • Darla Although Eric does not appear in Sofia the First, he was mentioned once by Ariel when she told Sofia that Eric needed Ariel's help when his ship sunk. Once Upon a Time: Once Upon a Time (Book) • Snow White's Glass Coffin • Red Riding Hood • Maleficent's Staff • Magic Wand • Glass Slipper • Poisoned Apple • Spinning Wheel • Magic Lamp • Dark One's Dagger • Chipped Cup • Jefferson's Hat • Magic Beans • Captain Hook's Hooks • Enchanted Candle • Pixie Dust • Dreamshade • Salad Fork • Pandora's Box • Silver Slippers • Sorcerer Hat • Enchanted Broom • Trident • Enchanted Shell • Heroes and Villains (Book) • Merida's Bow • Magical Rose • Excalibur • Olympian Crystal • Cinderella's Dress • Golden Scarab Beetle • Rapunzel's Frying Pan • Magical Golden Flower • Shrinking Potion • Floating Lanterns • Tarot Cards • Maui's Fish Hook Sexual: a mention of gay mermaids; non binary characters; two gay girls like each other and end up getting married; kissing (not detailed) Beauty and the Beast: Belle • The Beast • Lumiere • Cogsworth • Mrs. Potts • Chip • Gaston • Enchantress • Winter Belle • Fancy Beast • Bookworm Belle • Magical Enchantress
