Once you own such a radio, all you need to do is turn it on and let it search the available radio stations so you can choose and listen to your preferred programme. Digital radios, also known as DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting Plus), work by transmitting digital radio signals instead of analog signals, as is the case with traditional FM radios. In other words, radio stations transmit their programmes digitally. The radio will scan for digital radio stations the first time that it’s turned on and subsequently return to the last listened to station. To browse the list of stations the forward/Stations button has to be pressed first. This opens the list of stored stations which can be browsed by turning the rotary knob left and right. A different station can be selected by pushing in the knob. This works well but if you forget to press the Stations button first you’ll find yourself changing the volume. Despite being slightly less expensive than the BT3, the Elan E3 actually comes with many of the same capabilities, including aux input for streaming your own music, and the option to switch between mains and battery power. We also liked the fact that the buttons and dials on the Pure Elan E3 are tactile and easy to use. You don’t have to fiddle around with tiny buttons when you’re trying to find the right station. At the same time, although you can’t stream your content to the device via Bluetooth, you can still connect and play your own music via aux cable.
