And I think that feeling is even better when I make those special scented pine cones myself (instead of buying them at craft stores) and use them wherever we like to add a bit of that warm feeling to our home. Scenting them yourself means you can mix a blend of essential oils to come up with your own home scent. Be careful when taking your cinnamon-scented pine cones out of the bag. The loose cinnamon powder will fall everywhere. To avoid making extra work for yourself, place a large newspaper on the work table to catch any cinnamon powder that falls.

Remove the pinecones from the oven and let them cool completely. Pinecones should be completely cool before adding scent.Leave the pine cone aside for a few minutes for the glue to dry a bit while you get on with prepping the other pine cones.

Easy Pine Cone Crafts

If you can’t find pinecones for sale or you have easy access to a woodsy area, it’s also fun to collect them yourself. Pine cones tend to fall off the trees during late summer through fall and winter. However, the weather and climate can affect when pinecones fall. If collecting your own pine cones, be sure to only grab the dry ones that have already fallen to the ground. In addition, discard any cones with broken tips, torn edges, or that show any other signs of obvious damage. Unfortunately, these cones simply won’t hold up well over time, nor will they absorb scents well either. Instead, look for firm pine cones that still have a fair amount of natural color. NOTE: Pure essential oils are very strong and will eat away at plastic if left in a plastic container for any length of time. I used my awesome glass spray bottle from Grove for this project so that my plastic ones weren’t ruined. If you do use a plastic spray bottle, dump out any leftover essential oil and water mixture immediately after you are done. If you use the glass spray bottle you can leave the mixture for however long you’d like, and use it to re-spray the pinecones later if they start to lose their scent!
