About this deal

So you have bought an expensive Cisco original brand switch. Now you are considering buying compatible optics for the same. But, do you really need to buy Cisco original brand modules? Apart from the Cisco SFP-10G-LRM module there is another type of module for multimode fibers, called as the SFP-10G-LRM2. This module refers to a type of SFP+ transceiver that are fully compatible with the 10GBASE-LRM standard and have a reach of about 2km over a standard multimode fiber. LRM transceivers are often mistaken for 10GBASE-LR SFP+ optics, but it is not the same. 10GBASE-LRM SFP+ makes use of the 1310nm lasers, however, it has a maximum reach of only 220 m over standard multimode fibers such as OM3/OM4. This transceiver is available in the XFP and SFP+ form factors. The Cisco 10GBASE-ZR module supports link lengths of up to about 80 kilometers on standard SMF (G.652). This interface is not specified as part of the 10 Gigabit Ethernet standards and is, instead, built according to Cisco specifications. SFP-10G-ZR-S does not support FCoE.

The Cisco 10GBASE-ER module supports a link length of up to 40 kilometers on SMF (G.652). SFP-10G-ER-S does not support FCoE.

Experience the next level of network performance with the Switch SFP Part SFP-10G-SR-C. This cutting-edge transceiver module is designed to deliver unprecedented speeds and reliable connectivity. Fully compatible with Cisco part SFP-10G-SR, this SFP module is the ultimate solution for upgrading your network infrastructure. The Cisco SFP-10G-SR-I is a multirate 10GBASE-SR, 10GBASE-SW and OTU2/2e module for industrial operating temperature range. This module also supports CPRI datarate options 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7a, 8. It supports a link length of 26m on standard Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI)-grade Multimode Fiber (MMF). Using 2000MHz *km MMF(OM3), up to 300m link lengths are possible. Using 4700MHz *km MMF (OM4), up to 400m link lengths are possible. All other products will be delivered via the fastest available method (excluding bank holidays and weekends) and generally within 3-5 days, depending on customer location.

The Cisco SFP-10G-ZR-I is a multirate 10GBASE-ZR, 10GBASE-ZW, and OTU2/OTU2e module for industrial operating temperature range. The SFP-10G-ZR-I has a limiting electrical interface receiver, which does not require EDC PHY on the host board, it can be plugged into any SFP+ port. It supports link lengths of up to 70 kilometers on standard Single-Mode Fiber (SMF, G.652), assuming a fiber chromatic dispersion of 20ps/(nm *km). This interface is not specified as part of the 10 Gigabit Ethernet standard and is instead built according to Cisco specifications. The SFP-10G-ZR-I has a cold start at -40⁰C; the transceiver will be operational except optical traffic is not supported from -40⁰ to -28⁰C, all other low speed features (DOM, I2C, etc.) are operational. The module is fully operational from -28⁰C to 85⁰C. When shorter distances of Single-Mode Fiber (SMF) are used, it might be necessary to insert an inline optical attenuator in the link to avoid overloading the receiver. A 10-dB inline optical attenuator should be inserted between the fiber-optic cable plant and the receiving port on the SFP at each end of the link whenever the fiber-optic cable span loss is less than 8 dB. A SFP-10G-BX40D-I device is always connected to a SFP-10G-BX40U-I device with a single strand of standard SMF with an operating transmission range up to 40 km. For S-Class SFP+ 10 Gigabit Modules, refer to the link below: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/interfaces-modules/transceiver-modules/datasheet-listing.html.

The Cisco 10GBASE-ER Module supports a link length of up to 40 kilometers on standard Single-Mode Fiber (SMF, G.652). The Cisco SFP-10G-LR-X is a multirate 10GBASE-LR, 10GBASE-LW, and OTU2/OTU2e module for extended operating temperature range. It supports a link length of 10 kilometers on standard Single-Mode Fiber (SMF,G.652). The GLC-GE-DR-LX SFP also supports Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) functions according to the industry-standard SFF-8472 Multisource Agreement (MSA). This feature gives the end user the ability to monitor real-time parameters of the SFP, such as optical output power, optical input power, temperature, laser bias current, and transceiver supply voltage. The communication over a single strand of fiber is achieved by separating the transmission wavelength of the two devices. The GLC-BX80-D-I and GLC-BX80-U-I SFPs also support Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) functions according to the industry-standard SFF-8472 Multisource Agreement (MSA). This feature gives the end user the ability to monitor real-time parameters of the SFP, such as optical output power, optical input power, temperature, laser bias current, and transceiver supply voltage. The Cisco 10GBASE-ER Industrial Temperature Module supports a link length of up to 40 kilometers on standard Single-Mode Fiber (SMF, G.652). The SFP-10G-ER-I for Industrial Operating Temperature Range is a multirate 10GBASE-ER, 10GBASE-EW and OTU2/2e module.

A SFP-10G-BXD-I device is always connected to a SFP-10G-BXU-I device with a single strand of standard SMF with an operating transmission range up to 10 km. The Cisco 10GBASE-LR module supports a link length of 10 kilometers on standard Single-Mode Fiber (SMF) (G.652). SFP-10G-LR-S does not support FCoE.The Cisco 10GBASE-LR Module supports a link length of 10 kilometers on standard Single-Mode Fiber (SMF, G.652). The Cisco 10GBASE-SR Module supports a link length of 26m on standard Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI)-grade Multimode Fiber (MMF). Using 2000MHz*km MMF (OM3), up to 300m link lengths are possible. Using 4700MHz*km MMF (OM4), up to 400m link lengths are possible. Flexibility of media and interface choice on a port-by-port basis, so you can “pay as you populate”

Hot-swappable input/output device that plugs into an Ethernet SFP+ port of a Cisco switch (no need to power down if installing or replacing) The Cisco SFP-10G-LR-X is a multirate 10GBASE-LR, 10GBASE-LW, and OTU2/OTU2e module for extended operating temperature range. It supports a link length of 10 kilometers on standard Single-Mode Fiber (SMF, G.652).The Cisco SFP-10G-ZR is a multirate 10GBASE-ZR, 10GBASE-ZW, and OTU2/OTU2e module. It supports link lengths of up to about 80 kilometers on standard Single-Mode Fiber (SMF, G.652). This interface is not specified as part of the 10 Gigabit Ethernet standard and is instead built according to Cisco specifications. The SFP-10G-ZR-I has a cold start at -40 ⁰ C, the transceiver will be operational except optical traffic is not supported from -40 ⁰ C to -28 ⁰ C, all other low speed features (DOM, I2C, etc.) are operational. The module is fully operational -28 ⁰ C to 85 ⁰ C. Cisco only published four 10G S-class SFP+ modules and two 40G S-class QSFP+ modules. The following table listed Cisco S-class modules. Cisco S-class modules seem to have no differences from the non-S-class modules. However, if you read the specification of these modules and the suggestions from Cisco, you will find the differences. The standard non-S-class Cisco modules like SFP-10G-SR and SFP-10G-LR can support three protocols including Ethernet, OTN (Optical Transport Network) and WAN-PHY (Wide Area Network Physics). However, the S-class modules can only support Ethernet protocol.
