About this deal

Overall, putting a child seat on your bike is a great way to get around with your child. Just make sure you do your research and select the right seat for your bike and your child’s weight. Is a front or rear child bike seat safer? There are a few different types of bike seats available. The most common type is the rear-mounted seat, which attaches to the rear axle of the bike. This type of seat is best for children who are at least a year old and are able to hold their head up on their own. All the rear seats we've looked at so far have been designed for smaller children, but once your child grows out of their first rear seat you can continue to carry them using the Yepp Junior seat - usually between the ages of 5 and about 9. There are different types of child bike seats available on the market, but the two main types are front and rear. So, which one is safer?

Another type of seat is the front-mounted seat, which attaches to the handlebars of the bike. This type of seat is best for toddlers who are not quite ready to ride in a rear-mounted seat. It is also a good option for older children who want a more active role in riding their bike. All front-mounted bike seats will interfere with your (1) pedal stroke, and (2) riding space. The shorter the rider, the more problematic the seat may be. For reference, I am a shorter rider at 5’4″. (1) Pedal Stroke Once you’ve decided on a seat placement, there are a few other factors to consider. Child bike seats come in different sizes, so be sure to choose one that will fit your child comfortably. And, just as with adult bikes, it’s important to make sure that the child’s bike seat is properly installed and securely fastened. The Thule Yepp Mini is an incredible front-mounted child bike seat. You won’t be disappointed with the quality and features of this seat. It makes riding as a family possible from a young age and gives young riders a turn at being part of the action versus being stowed away in a trailer or behind the parent. Overall, the Yepp Maxi and Yepp Nexxt Maxi are both great rear-mounted child bike seats. The main difference between the two seats is that the Yepp Nexxt Maxi is a bit larger and has a built-in sunshade, while the Yepp Maxi is a bit smaller and does not have a sunshade. There has been some speculation over the past few weeks that Thule, the Swedish car equipment company, has bought Yepp, the Dutch manufacturer of child bike seats.

The Urban Iki Junior is a bike seat for older children. With a maximum load capacity of 35 kg, the seat is made for children from 5 to 10 years old. Your little adventurer sits comfortably on a cool cowboy saddle that is available in two beautiful colors. Under the soft, water-resistant cushion is a hip belt for added safety. Sturdy, non-slip footrests make hopping on and off a cinch, and provide grip during rides. Always ready to go! This is how you mount Junior bike seat One of the main reasons for this is that a front seat can interfere with the child’s ability to see and react to what is happening around them. This can be especially dangerous if the child is riding in a busy area or if they are near the edge of the road.Truthfully these Yepp seats weren’t necessarily designed with mountain bikes or mountain biking in mind, especially on newer, modern mountain bikes . But they have been named by the mountain bike community as a potential mountain biking seat for babies and toddlers, so of course, we tested it out for ourselves. Designed and tested for children from 9 months* to 6 years old, up to 48.5 lbs/22 kg. *Consult a paediatrician for children under 1 year old. Furthermore, a front seat can also place the child at risk of being hit by obstacles and other vehicles, as they will be in the direct line of sight. When it comes to choosing the right bike seat for your child, there are a few things to consider. One of the most important factors is the age of your child. Child bike seats typically go up to a weight limit of around 40-45 pounds. The American Association of Pediatrics recommends waiting until a child is 12 months oldto ride along with you in a bike seat. It is also illegal in some states to ride with a child under 12 months. Therefore, our recommended age of use for the Yepp Mini is 12 months to 3 years old or 33 pounds. Thule Yepp Mini Offers Great Room for Growth

With a head tube-mounted seat an issue that may crop up is that there's not enough space between the bike seat and your saddle. This will depend on the combination of the geometry of your bike, your height and the seat. Seat name The shoulder pads are made from a rubbery material that is intended to prevent slipping or sliding of the straps, specifically off the child’s shoulders or arms. However, I did find with down coats or some polyester fabrics that the shoulder pads weren’t as slip-proof. But with cotton materials and fleeces, the pads remained firm in place. You can also remove the front cover of the standard mount on either the Thule Yepp Mini or the Thule Yepp Nexxt Mini. This simply exposes the rain shield connection piece and does not affect the integrity of the mount. This will free up a small amount of space when fitting to mountain bikes. This is shown in the image on the right above. Yepp is a well-established brand with a strong reputation for quality. It would give Thule a foothold in the Dutch market, and access to Yepp’s innovative designs and technology. Here’s a side by side comparison of my son in the Thule Yepp Mini vs. the Hamax Observer. You can clearly see how big my 2.5-year-old looks riding in the Hamax versus the Thule. His knees barely clear the handlebars in the Hamax Observer bike seat . You can also see the difference in the seat height if you look at the seat in conjunction with where his shoulders are. When choosing a child seat, make sure it is properly fitted and adjusted to the child. The seat should be at the correct height and the child should be securely strapped in.
