The RC-300 is the top-of-the-line looper from BOSS and it’s an absolute beast. As big as a typical multi-effects floorboard, it gives you complete control over your loops. Features: do you just want to be able to record simple chord progressions to jam over? Or do you want to create full songs on-the-fly for solo performances? If you’ve read through each of the above pedals, you should have a good idea of which one suits you the best. There’s a big difference between each Loop Station pedal, so for most guitarists, the choice will be easy. Cons: If you’re primarily interested in a looper for live use, the compact size will present difficulties – unless you buy an external footswitch to make it more hands-free. Both pedals make use of one footswitch and one level knob. The Ditto Looper is mono while the RC-3 supports mono or stereo inputs and outputs. If you use stereo pedals or plan on using them in the future, this is a great feature to have.
The first thing to point out is that the RC-3 was released in 2011, so it is nine years older than the RC-5. The four-button loop mode is really useful for layering up different parts and triggering it at certain times. Having the separate footswitches for starting and stopping recording also means that you’re less likely to get muddled up when performing live.
There’s clearly a big difference between the RC-3 and RC-30. The RC-30 is also almost twice the price of the RC-3. So the big question for you is whether the extra control and features built into the RC-30 are worth it to you. Third Party Rights. Choosing between the RC-30 and the RC-300 The Ditto X2 is a step up from the Ditto in the same way that the RC-3 is a step up from the RC-1. The Ditto X2 and the RC-3 cost around the same, so you might expect them to be similar in terms of features. In my opinion, the Ditto X2 falls far behind the RC-3.
Even though it's nothing unusual for a device of this size, it might take some time to get used to the fact that this Loop Station turns itself off and on automatically. As the device has no power switch, it starts or shuts down when you plug or unplug something at output A (provided it is powered with electricity ;) ). MIDI Connections Get a looper that you’re not going to outgrow in the next few years. As an example, while the Ditto looper was incredibly popular when it came out, it’s incredibly basic. A lot of guitarists enjoy using it for a while, then start noticing it’s limitations. The main difference between the RC-1 and the Ditto is the indicator ring on the RC-1. It might not seem like much, but it makes the looper so much easier to use. But it isn’t just “here’s a small looper for people who do slightly more than just annoy their families with endless looping” (let’s admit it, we’re all guilty of that from time to time). Now you could viably use the looper in a live situation as well. It might take a while to get used to performing some operations, but with a little practice it becomes intuitive. You can also always add an external footswitch later for easier control of the pedals features. Undo: Imagine you’ve set up the perfect loop and you want to add a melody over the top of your loop. You hit record and mess up the timing of the melody. Loop ruined, right? Fortunately, all loop station pedals allow you to undo the last overdub.
On the other hand, if you’re a live performer and plan on heavily using loops in your performances, it’s worth considering the RC-30. Running two synchronized loops at the same time gives you a lot more freedom when building layers and starting/stopping parts. E. Install and operate counterfeit versions of Software (i.e. software provided by anyone other than Roland or an authorized representative of Roland) on Roland hardware; There are more rhythym options & settings than I'll ever need or use, but that's a good thing. It means that anything I could possibly want is in there. in-built drum grooves are the icing on the looper pedal cake here – allowing you home players to jam along until the cows come home. There are two variations for each groove, as well as customized patterns and seven kit types to choose from, making the RC-5 significantly more convenient (and significantly less annoying) than an actual human drummer. We jest, but at least the RC-5 won’t spend all its money on beer. The best looper pedals are invaluable for solo practice, too. Whilst it might look easy, getting the timing just right on your loops is harder than you might think. Once you master it, your timing and phrasing is likely to be much better as a result. This is really useful if you’re playing on your own, but also with other musicians as well.
You can use this to import loop phrases stored on your PC. Use them for anything you want really. What’s cool about this is that you can save a lot of loops. There’s no reason to delete things.
It took me a minute to figure out how to work the auto-record feature. Turns out that my guitar just wasn’t loud enough for the pedal to process the signal. The RC-600 is the most feature-filled loop station covered in this guide. It surpasses the now-ancient RC-300 in many ways as well as introducing new features not found on any other loop station pedal. If you’re a live performer and you think you’ll experiment with adding loops to your playing, the RC-3 is a great starting point.
