About this deal

After the war, Joanne wanted to study more about clouds but she was laughed at by the men at the university. Clouds weren't really that important. In fact, Rossby even told her to go home, saying "No woman ever got a doctorate in meteorology. And no woman ever will." But Joanne was stubborn. She continued to study clouds, discovering some surprising properties about them. Finally, after presenting her finding to the professors at the university, Joanne had indeed earned a doctorate of meteorology, the first woman to do so.

an enjoyable and mildly satisfactory read. loved how all the cases were intricately woven together. the characterization was pretty good and the pacing was just right, absolutely perfect for this novel. i liked that good balance of intense action, investigation and thrill with a tap of mystery. the twists and turns caught me off guard here nd there but tbh, the flow was great so i wasn't "surprised" by half of the things but the plot points went over really smoothly and i like good writing so i won't complain that i predicted a couple things. the aesthetic of the setting was so obvious i just cant not predict half the things. nonetheless, the story was good. it held my attention. that is enough. When I found footage of the women during the race, their eyes sparkled and their essence shined. These women were literally flying outside of conventional wisdom and having fun while doing it.My hope was to capture the light the women generated and share it with others searching for their own passion. This is what inspired me to re-tell their story to a larger audience and why I felt I had to produce the film. I was looking for role models in my own journey and struggling to find a community where I could contribute any talents I may have in a meaningfully way. These pioneering pilots from nearly ninety years ago illustrated how to follow one's own inner energy to spark a community into action and forge a new path. Their contagious enthusiasm swept others into action, helping to manifest their goals, and created positive change in the world. readerz @Rilise @Regalia1896 @Raneday @Raizendeville @Rabbitanairy @rainbowturtle @Ryss @Rurella @Rucce @RoseColouredSin @Rainess09

When Joanne Simpson (1923–2010) was a girl, she sailed her boat beneath the puffy white clouds of Cape Cod. As a pilot, she flew her plane so high, its wings almost touched them. And when World War II began and Joanne moved to the University of Chicago, a professor asked her to teach Air Force officers about those very clouds and the weather-changing winds. As soon as the war ended, Joanne decided to seriously study the clouds she had grown to love so much. Her professors laughed. They told her to go home. They told her she was no longer needed. They told her, “No woman ever got a doctorate in meteorology. And no woman ever will.” Po Yun es, oíganme bien, la mejor novela de crimen que he leído en mi vida. La trama es una delicia. Y, ah, cuando al fin lees el pasado de Jiang Ting, todo te hace clic. I can't tell you how many times this book has driven me insane. It's just full of plot twists designed to challenge everything you thought you knew. I have to admit; this book is just… Just… Wow.YX: "Because I am in every way the best person to be with. Do you know how animals choose their mates in nature? Only a strong male can stand out in this cruel social competition, occupy the most resources for survival, provide the best living conditions for caring for the family and offspring. "

When I watch the weather, no matter online or on TV, I don’t think twice when I see a female meteorologist. In fact, at least in my area, I’m quite certain the women outnumber the men. That wasn’t the case before Joanne Simpson, who in 1949 stubbornly fought for the right to become the first woman in the world to earn the title of doctor of meteorology. Unfortunately, even after earning the degree, because she was a woman, she didn’t have the respect of her fellow meteorologists. She was forced to continually fight for the freedom to conduct in depth research in the study of clouds, her area of expertise. Thanks to her persistence, she finally succeeded in breaking down the barriers and completed her cloud model. This study led to a new branch of science which helps scientists make the predictions we take for granted today: Will it be partly sunny today? Will we have snow showers in the afternoon? Will we have blue skies tomorrow? This is a fascinating picture book biography of the first woman to receive a doctorate of meteorology, Joanne Simpson (and who later became the president of the American Meteorological Society). It is a celebration of ingenuity and science, but also a story of perseverance and bravery. Joanne Simpson is not a name I knew before reading this, but I'm fascinated by her work. I've said before I'm not a fan of good guys, but with this, it sparked my interest. Yan Xie in this case, is the good guy. He's all these things, but he's also a cop. A no nonsense cop. He doesn't tolerance anything out of line, and he just can't help yelling at his subordinates to do the same.i don't remember any cheating, but indeed JT HIDES too many things. big spoiler: he's one of the mastermind, Red Queen/Queen of Hearts, working together with the big bad, King of Spade. basically they were working together, usurping the police. JT got promotions, King of Spade got early warnings so the caught people were only the low ones, never the higher-ups. even in later part of novel, almost ending/last arc, JT literally betrayed YX in front of the enemies, with guns pointing at him. imagine the angst, disappointment, pain etc Aeli @aNonYm0U5 @azure_sea @Ami @Ashie @ahsudole @Ash Astin @AaronKing @aresk @Anra7777 @AimieNam1003

Being a female pilot in 1929 came with it's own set of unique obstacles. Not only did women have to continually prove their skills, they had to defend their wardrobe since wearing pants was distinctly unfeminine.Aviation was still in its' infancy with planes basically made of wood, fabric, and an often unreliable motor. There was no GPS. No radios. Just the pilot, the roar of the motor, and the clouds in the sky.If you were lost, you landed in an open field and asked a surprised farmer for direction. The women in the derby were essentially test pilots flying in all out speed race pushing the planes, each other, and the public’s perception of what was possible. These brave contestants embodied the enthusiasm of the era while promoting a purpose bigger than themselves. They combined their passion and transferred their dreams to the world, becoming symbols of hope for a nation between two World Wars. I also really disliked Yan Xie, he is a typical rich-man with too much power in his hands. His treatment towards the women in this book was really upsetting to read and I did not like how he talked to Jiang Ting sometimes (again forcing heterosexual dynamics). The fact that he was a main character and the romantic interest of Jiang Ting meant I had to think about him more than I wanted to, perpetuating my further dislike for him. Once again, a picture book biography introduces us to a little known, but inspirational figure in history. This story, describing how a woman’s determination and hard work earned her the right to make in depth studies of the effects of different types of clouds on our weather, will be motivational to kids dreaming of being a meteorologist, especially the girls. It is a perfect choice for Women’s History Month, STEM biographies and careers, and as an introduction to a unit on meteorology. After the first two arcs, the rest of the story focuses on the police trying to take down the King of Spades and figuring out who his moles are within the police. Along the way, we learn the full story behind JT's relationship with him. At times it was a bit hard to follow since there are so many names and references to previous incidents, but there were some thrilling twists along the way and the reader is constantly kept guessing who is helping which side. I had trouble putting the book down and had a couple of late nights because I was so drawn into the story that I couldn't stop reading.Considered the expert on the subject, Heather has written extensively about on the women and the derby, spoken on numerous panels including at the National Air & Space Museum, and has and given presentations at Women in Aviation Conferences, AirVenture (largest air show in the world), schools, museums, and various organizations across the country. She had the honor of inducting the twenty women who flew in the First National Air Derby into the Women in Aviation’s Pioneer Hall of Fame. Her work is cited in several books on women in aviation.
