In our original blog post made just after the tease that both LEGO and Disney put out, we made a few predictions. Let’s see how right or wrong we were!Ernesto de la Cruz is a skeleton that is dressed in a white mariachi band leader-style outfit, complete with the big sombrero hat. While Dr Facilier is a great companion to Tiana, I just feel like he’s not iconic enough of a villain to include in the Disney 100 series, and Tiana would be perfectly fine solo, like Aurora and Pocahontas. There will be two complete sets of Disney 100 Minifigures in each sealed box, which should be a huge relief for fans who are accustomed to buying boxes to guarantee full sets. The translation to a LEGO minifigure is a little clunky and awkward. Baymax is known for being much taller than a human, with a large, shapeless balloon shape, which doesn’t quite work with the minifigure’s fixed proportions. Accessories-wise, she will come with Cri-Kee, though we imagine he will be an absolutely minuscule accessory considering he’s only a bug.I saw 101 Dalmatians as a kid when it was re-released in theaters… I’m not old enough to have seen the original run from the 1960s. In fact, I probably saw one of the re-re-re-releases. But, I digress… This movie was not one of my favorites. With that said, Cruella has appeared in several films and series, making her an iconic Disney villain. Why a fashion designer would want to make fur coats out of puppy fur? Who knows. I certainly don’t know anyone who would want to buy one. This Minifigure is nicely detailed with an amazing double-sided face. The puppy element is also new, so hopefully we see more of those in other themes and collections. While it’s not the most detailed minifigure, I appreciate the historical significance of Oswald to Disney’s history, so it makes for a really cool character to include in this series, as it would be very hard to find a home for otherwise. One of the most eye-catching things about Princess Tiana is her large, flower or bell-like dress. It’ll be interesting to see how LEGO does this one. We would never have expected them to include characters such as Ernesto de la Cruz, Prince John, or Dr Facilier, but we love the fact that they didn’t just go with obvious characters. This Stitch Minifigure will also come with a ray gun, so LEGO is really leaning into the whole alien aesthetic of this version of the character.

As for the wants and wishes, I am mostly sure that the LEGO Group won’t skimp out on going the extra mile for all 18 of the Disney 100th anniversary CMF releases, though I really, really hope to see Baymax getting a new mold. The rest of the characters seem like there shouldn’t be an issue getting appropriate accessories and designs to fit with them, but Big Hero 6 star breaks the mold of a typical minifigure. And so I am hopeful they can pull off his unique look while still capturing the classic LEGO feel.
