About this deal

Yes, you can't really create anything else but poker-straight strands ( mermaid waves and tight curls are sadly out of the question) but it really does what it says on the tin. I'd never seen my hair this healthy-looking after using a hair tool. Anyone who knows me would be able to confirm that I wear my hair straight 99.9% of the time. As someone who has naturally wavy hair, I've tried tons of hair straighteners and hot air brushes alike, so when I heard about the new GHD wet-to-dry styler, I was almost immediately sold. A hair dryer and a straightener that claims to style and dry your hair with no damage? Yes, to all of the above. no thermal hair damage detected after 100 cycles of 4 passes in wet to style mode vs naturally dried hair Efficient, eco-friendly performance designed to deliver powerful yet efficient styling with unique internal aerodynamics that minimise energy waste for up 45% less energy consumption†.

Achieve gorgeously sleek, smooth and glossy hair with unprecedented softness for up to 48 hours.**** With exclusive Shine Shot™ mode for use on dry hair only, duet style transforms into a ghd styler operating at the optimal 185°C styling temperature with no air - delivering instant frizz-free results**** with 2x more shine****. Unique aerodynamics deliver an ultra-powerful yet efficient performance, minimising energy waste. A bespoke acoustic system lowers sound levels while drying for a more pleasant styling experience.Instead of exposing my hair to the high heat of a hairdryer, followed by a straightener temperature of 185°C, the max it got to was 150°C (without the shine shot). My hair felt soft, healthy, and not-at-all frazzled after use.

On paper, my ghd Duet Style review was a success, but there was a moment post-styling where I looked at my rod-straight hair and wondered if ghd is 10 years too late with this innovation. Even straight-hair coveters like me have graduated to the idea of a soft wave instead of poker straight hair. ghd doesn’t mention waving or curling hair with this product, but I thought I’d give it a go. Using the shine shot, I was able to add a subtle wave to my hair, which made my finished style feel softer and more modern. The plates are wide, so this wouldn’t be possible on short hairstyles, just shoulder-length to long hairstyles and it takes a bit of practice to get the technique right (even if you already know how to curl hair with a straightener) Afterwards, my hair looked much sleeker than if I'd used a hair dryer, and had a bit more volume than if I'd ironed-flat my whole head of hair. The styler provides the perfect mix of volume and sleekness – almost reminiscent of the 90s signature fluffy blowout.

The Product:

Introducing the ground-breaking innovation that allows you to dry and style hair at the same time - meet ghd duet style. Advanced floating plates equipped with smart infinity sensors and finished with an ultra-gloss coating for smooth, snag-free styling I appreciated how the device wasn't too noisy (in comparison to a regular hair dryer), however, I found that the plates were a bit too large to allow for precision straightening near the root area. The shine shot did give me the finish that I was looking for and my hair felt super silky afterwards, however, considering the amount of time that it took me to achieve all this, I'm not sure if it's the type of hair tool that I would reach for on an everyday basis, especially when I'm in a rush. GHD hair tools, if you haven’t used them before, are the gold standard. The hair dryer, the straighteners and the curling wands, have transformed the lives of many a curly-haired woman, meaning they can get salon-worthy smoothness from their bedroom. The best bit? My hair didn't smell like it been set on fire (those loyal to their hair straighteners will know exactly what I'm talking about) and I could even smell faint notes of the shampoo I'd used. Further proof that this really might not be detrimentally damaging to hair health.

This is where things take a little getting used to. If you're interested in the GHD Duet Style, it's worth noting that you should be totally open to the idea of your hair routine changing entirely. According to ghd, in a consumer testing panel of 142 women, there was no thermal hair damage detected after 100 cycles of 4 passes of the tool in wet-to-style mode compared to naturally dried hair. These are impressive stats, but the cynic in me still doesn’t quite believe that any tool powered by heat won’t damage the hair at least a little bit. Instead of saying it doesn’t cause any damage at all, I would lean towards saying that the ghd Duet Styler results in reduced damage compared to using a separate hairdryer and straightener. Keep in mind too that even air drying your hair, which is widely considered to be the kindest option, can still cause some damage. This is because our strands are weaker when they’re wet and are therefore more prone to snagging and snapping caused by things like brushing, combing and friction on your pillow. Can you use the ghd Duet Styler on dry hair? As a great writer does, I went in to this with zero research, with no user manual in sight. I know, I'm so good at my job. As such, I had no expectations. I turned on the slightly chunkier-than-average hair straightener-lookalike and was greeted by the sound of a small jet engine. Interesting. As I’ve alluded to, the ghd Duet Style looks, at first glance, like a big straightener – but it’s much more than that. The magic starts with the swivel cord, where a filter draws air into the styler to fuel the drying process. That air is then propelled up the handle of the styler to the plates. There, instead of a typical double-plate design, there are four narrow plates (two on each side) with air vents between them where the heated air is blown onto the hair. There are also four narrow rows of vents on the outer edges of the Duet, which are designed to efficiently dry your roots. So with all of that said, I want to now explain why the GHD Duet Style isn't going to become my daily tool. Don't get me wrong—I'll still use it for days when I want to keep my hair straight, but it isn't going to replace my hair dryer and curling tongs when I want to opt for something wavy or curled. And here's why. Bespoke acoustic system designed to lower sound levels for a more pleasant and refined styling experience. ghd scientists have achieved the impossible, blending the best of our drying and heat technologies to simplify your styling routine for faster results with just one tool, creating multiple styles for all hair types. Ground-breaking Air-fusion™ technology channels an ultra-concentrated airflow through a bespoke drying chamber, expertly designed to work in combination with 4 smart low temperature styling plates to efficiently dry and straighten hair. Infinity sensors predict your hair's needs to maintain an optimal low styling temperature from root to tip, for best-in-class performance that respects your hair with no heat damage**, sizzling or burning smell. My whole head of hair took less than 30 mins to style – for a lazy girl with a lot of hair, that's pretty impressive. What's more, because the hair tool isn't as streamlined-looking as others in my arsenal, I was worried it would be heavy and make my arms ache like I'd done a weight session at the gym, but it's actually pretty light considering all the tech, weighing just 0.821 kg.

The bigger plates just aren't cut out for curling. I already knew this from trying the GHD Max, mind you. When I first heard about the Duet Style, I was hoping it might help me achieve a bouncy blow-out sort of look. I assumed that by manipulating the angles at which you glide the styler through the lengths, you'd be able to get some waves and curls as it dried. And while it does create some movement, as with the GHD Max, the wider and squarer nature of the plates leaves unwanted lines in the hair. The final verdict If you have curly or wavy hair and like to blow dry your lengths to be straight, this tool will revolutionise your routine—I'm absolutely certain of that. The extra heat and clamping motion sets it miles above any blow-dry brush or multi-styler out there for this sort of thing. If that's you, please don't let anything else that I'm about to say put you off. Transform wet hair into beautifully smooth styles with no heat damage* using the first 2-in-1 hot air styler from ghd. Discover the best in heat and drying technologies together in one tool to simplify your styling routine and deliver unbelievably soft hair you just can't stop touching. Air-fusion™ technology combines state of the art internal aerodynamics with 4 smart heated styling plates to efficiently dry and style hair simultaneously. Each low temperature plate is equipped with infinity sensors to predict your hair's needs and maintain an optimal low temperature from root to tip. Introducing the ground-breaking innovation that allows you to dry and style hair at the same time - meet ghd duet style in white.ghd claims that their unique 'Air-fusion' tech (sounds science-y, right?) allows for ultra concentrated airflow to effectively dry and straighten hair at a lower temperature.
