About this deal

We live in the tropics and most of our travels have been tropical. We know these towels work for tropical conditions.

Having your own towel for traveling the world can be immensely useful. Going to the beach? The towel will keep the sand off your ass and out of your portable speaker. Want to have a spontaneous yoga session? Throwdown your towel and chaturanga away. Need to dry out those hiking boots after a long walk? Use that towel to soak up any leftover moisture in those boots (maybe do that after washing yourself though) The majority of the microfiber travel towels on the market today come in a soft suede finish. Some have a luxury feel, others are too stiff. Microfibre is a much more practical choice for multiple reasons. It has great absorption properties, dries up fast, and folds compactly. 2. Size Microfibre is an incredibly fine synthetic fibre which can be found in multiple products these days. A micro-fibre towel usually dries four times faster, is six times lighter, and takes up a 1/8thof the space of a similar size standard towel. The size you buy for your children will be dependent on their age and gender, a medium should be adequate for boys, larger for teenagegirls and up. It’s hard to know what is the right decision currently hopefully things will be clearer soon. We certainly do enjoy using our Turkish cotton travel towels and they’re lovely for the beach or as sarongs. Micro Towelling or Micro Fibre Suede Finish? No time to read the whole post? This is the one we chose out of all the travel towels we bought below (currently unavailable – second choice here) as seen in the photo.

The Large at 160cm x 80 cm ( 63 x 31 inches) is plenty big enough, from armpits to knees. Extra Large also available, Large is plenty big enough for a beach towel. Classic cotton towels are extremely absorbent and can be luxuriously soft, but they are bulky and heavy, and take a long time to dry. For surfers, swimmers and car campers, who don’t care about weight, they can still be a good option, and robes can be perfect, with some people continuing to wear them long after they’ve dried off and warmed up. You simply wet them in room temperature water, dry them slightly, and they stay really cool for hours. Great for after or during workouts, journeys without air-con, hot kids, or for menopausal flushes. Also good for any tropical climate. We own some of these too, they are almost 20 years old and still going strong! We Tested The Following Microfibre Towels for Travel, Sport, Camping, Gym or Home Use The Eco Dept towel below has the nicest feel of any that we tested. Towelling finish (micro towelling) is also available it has similar properties to microfibre but a more traditional feel.

Microfiber Towel FAQs

Lifeventure state this towel will soak up nine times its own weight in moisture – but on test we didn’t think it was anywhere near as absorbent as claimed. It does dry you off, of course, but not as fast and efficiently as some towels with a more fibrous finish. However, the smooth feel will more than compensate for this for many people. You can use it for both your face and body, while still taking up very little space in your luggage. The material mix is soft, but occassionally caught on dry skin. There is no antibacterial treatment in the fabric either, so bacteria can build up over extended periods of time if you can’t get to a washing machine, which we found resulted in the towel getting a bit stinky. The corner attachment hoop (which opens with a clip) comes in handy if you want to hang this towel up from a branch or pole to create shade or cover, or simply to stop it dropping onto the floor. Cotton is a water-thirsty crop and not generally considered “green”. I don’t know what the answer is.

The fabric is 85% recycled, which is excellent, and while we found it wasn’t as absorbent as some microfiber towels made with fluffier materials, it does the job it’s designed for admirably (Sea to Summit state it soaks up three times its weight in water, but then it weighs next to nothing when dry). Unfortunately, they are not biodegradable and are made from non-renewable resources. Like most things, it’s a compromise, nothing is a perfect solution to saving the planet. This choice is heavily influenced by gender and by the proposed use. My husband is more than happy with a tiny towel to wrap around his waist, these towels are super-efficient at drying so size isn’t really a consideration when it comes to absorbance.Compact – A microfiber travel towel should take up as little room as possible. They should fold up smaller than a tank-top. At 70 x 37 inches, this is a large towel that provides ample coverage, whether you use it as a changing screen at the beach or as a cover-up when walking from your bedroom to a communal bathroom. There are various colors to choose from, including grass, lilac, aqua, and rich gray. All colors have statement-making stripes and hand-knotted tassels along the shorter edges. When you're not using it as a towel, this product also doubles as a scarf, sarong, picnic blanket, or throw for your living room at home. With a smooth ultra-suede finish, we found it was super comfortable to lie on, didn’t collect sand and was nonabrasive on our skin when we rubbed ourselves down. But for our money it isn’t quite as absorbent as some of the more fibrous towels on the market.
