About this deal

It is the second year the event has been hosted in Govan. Last year, the Ibrox favourites from yesteryear took on a team led by Luis Figo. The visitors narrowly won 3-2, with Shota Arveladze netting before an emotional late goal from Paul Gascoigne received a big response from fans. Former Porto and Portugal star Ricardo Quaresma got the winner after Carlos Marchena and Nuno Gomes also hit the target. Read More Related Articles

Luís, Giovanni and Roy will star alongside a World Legends squad featuring Roberto Carlos, Gheorghe Hagi, Robert Pires and a Rangers Legends team featuring former heroes such as Paul Gascoigne, Kris Boyd, Michael Mols, Saša Papac and Nikica Jelavić. The Rangers Legends squad is presented by Rangers’ Official Event Supplier, 5 Stars, and is set to feature some of our biggest and most loved Legends. Greig established himself firmly as a Rangers legend during a storied spell at Ibrox from 1961 to 1978. The defender graduated from Rangers’ academy and helped the Glasgow giants go on to lift several trophies. He would eventually retire as a five-time Scottish top-flight winner. But these matches are a reminder that the talent these players were blessed with can still come to the fore when the opportunity arises. There were still moments for the class to shine. It was a day of celebration at Ibrox as the highlight of Rangers' 150th anniversary events finally arrived.

Injuries and poor form would blight his final days in Glasgow as they had in Rome. But the larger-than-life character announced himself as a future Rangers legend in the only suitable way by ending a lung-busting run from his own box to meet McCoist’s cross and beat Celtic. Among the array of Rangers legends, there is a definite place in Ibrox history for former Gers captain Barry Ferguson. The midfielder skippered the ship from 2000 to 2003 and again from 2005 to 2009. He also lifted a huge 16 major titles through the midfielder’s spells in Glasgow. It is one thing hearing the stories. It is another to see the players in action, though, and the returning heroes and an array of big names from the English and European game were given a rousing welcome. Rangers recognised Tavernier, plus fellow modern-day legends Allan McGregor and Steven Davis, for their iconic contributions. Tavernier joined the club whilst they were competing in the Scottish Championship and helped to secure the title in his debut campaign at the club. Rangers then opened the scoring just short of the quarter of an hour mark. Alan Hutton played a delightful cross into the path of Jermain Defoe and, in typical fashion, he was ice cold in front of goal as he took the ball out of the air with his left foot before chipping the ball over David James from close range to put the Gers ahead.Commenting on the announcement, Luís Figo said: “I have many fond memories of Glasgow thanks to winning the UEFA Champions League there in 2002 and the Weekend of Legends at Ibrox is set to be another memorable occasion. Rangers’ First Team Coach Roy Makaay will also join the occasion by playing for the World Legends team and sampling a taste of what’s sure to be a sell-out Ibrox as a player. Alex McLeish was in the dug-out for the Light Blues with Robbie Fowler taking charge of the visitors but charity was the real winner on the day with a crowd of around 30,000 turning out.
