About this deal

When the ‘Road Works Ahead’ sign is displayed, take extra care and look for additional signs providing more specific instructions. Observe all signs – they are there for your safety and the safety of road workers. Watch out for vehicles entering or leaving the works area. Where vehicles are travelling in the road and are displaying amber warning lights, leave extra space and expect them to slow or turn into a works area. For all commuters, the introduction of Dubai Tram means a re-evaluation of road and traffic, as Dubai Tram will cross regular traffic at 30 junctions, crossings and intersections starting from Dubai Police Academy in Al Sufouh to Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence.

Railway telephones. If you are driving a large or slow- moving vehicle, a long, low vehicle with a risk of grounding, or herding animals, a train could arrive before you are clear of the crossing. You MUST obey any sign instructing you to use the railway telephone to obtain permission to cross. You MUST also telephone when clear of the crossing if requested to do so. Crossings without traffic lights. Vehicles should stop and wait at the barrier or gate when it begins to close and not cross until the barrier or gate opens. Rule 296

Where a vehicle displays the sign ‘CONVOY VEHICLE NO OVERTAKING’, you MUST NOT pass the vehicle. Give way to the tram sign The sign was introduced in 1964 and composed of the text "STOP when lights show", accompanied by the warning triangle of a gated level crossing ahead. This was used on the first manually operated level crossings. Wig-wags at this point only consisted of two horizontally mounted red lights, but was not shown on this sign. However, automatic half barrier crossings had a variant which had two red circles above the text depicting the lights. On this variant the text was slightly different, reading "STOP when lights flash", and was accompanied by the now defunct warning triangle depicting an automatic half barrier crossing ahead. In certain circumstances text may be added above the wig-wag diagram to describe the situation ahead (diagram 563.1). These variants always are accompanied by the warning triangle of danger ahead, and can read:

Tramcar crossings

When approaching such crossing, pedestrians should be aware of the direction the tram could come from, and only cross when not obstructing the tram movement in doing so. The direction of the tram line can be indicated by a sign depicting either one, or two trams, and an arrow indicating the direction of the tram.

You may see this written along the ground when the route ahead is tram only. The texture of the road may also be different as this is another sign to drivers and pedestrians that the route is just for trams. Tram crossing ahead sign The sign can also be used with the tunnel warning triangle, but now wig-wags at tunnels are being gradually replaced with traffic lights so the sign combination is defunct. Overhead electric lines. It is dangerous to touch overhead electric lines. You MUST obey the safe height warning road signs and you should not continue forward onto the railway if your vehicle touches any height barrier or bells. The clearance available is usually 5 metres (16 feet 6 inches) but may be lower. If you live in a rural town or village, or even a small or medium-sized city, you likely don't have a tram service running, therefore you won't see this sign unless you travel. At this time, automatic open level crossings were being introduced, and wig-wags were now being used to protect more situations such as emergency service stations on busy roads. At half barrier crossings, the text "AUTOMATIC BARRIERS" was added to the original sign, to accompany the warning triangle of a gated level crossing ahead. However, at open automatic crossings, the text "AUTOMATIC CONTROL (NO BARRIERS)" accompanied the warning triangle for an open level crossing ahead. At some emergency service stations where stopping traffic on a busy road was necessary, the text "FIRE STATION", "POLICE STATION" or "AMBULANCE STATION" was added to the original sign to be placed underneath the danger ahead warning triangle at these stations.
