Otherwise, using the lens with a Nikon camera is pretty much identical in experience to using it with one of the other mounts. Focusing is fast, accurate and quiet, making it well-suited to a range of different subjects. The inbuilt image stabilisation of the 55-200mm f/3,5-4.8 is impressive, allowing the use of slow shutter speeds to prevent camera shake even when hand-holding in low light situations. Imagine being able to shoot 4 or 5 stops slower than you usually would with a long-range zoom lens and still have a sharp photo!
A 16mm wide-angle lens has a field-of-view of 107 degrees – but a 16mm fisheye has a field-of-view of 180 degrees. They have the same focal length but each one is designed for a different purpose. Of course, you have to balance out the extra editing time with how fun this lens is to use – it really doesn’t weigh anything, and its bright aperture and wide focal length combine to make it a really fun lens for street photography. It also has obvious landscape photography applications, and it’s easy to imagine doing the confetti run at weddings. Thanks to 50mm lenses having a slightly wider field of view, you can capture more of the scene in your images. Is 16mm good for vlogging? A final word has to be reserved for the lens’ geometry, which while not bad, isn’t perfect – there’s a fair bit of barrel distortion. As with vignetting and purple fringing, this is something even a barely-competent photo editor will be able to sort more or less invisibly, but it’s worth bearing in mind that your images might need a touch more editing before they’re shareable. One of the most versatile lenses for photography and videography is the 50mm normal lens. Using a 50mm lens for B-roll is one of the more beneficial video tips. The 16mm f/1.4 is a perfect match for cameras such as the Fujifilm X-H1 (reviewed here), with its in-body image stabilisation. When combined with the wide-angle and fast aperture, you can get away with hand-holding at slow shutter speeds for up to 1 second and still get a steady shot! With so many lens options available on the market, it can become overwhelming to select the best lens to capture the best shot.

Above: Surely simply setting the switch on the lens from Control to Focus indicates you want to use the ring to focus, but no, you’ll need a more expensive lens with a dedicated AF / MF switch for that convenience. I really hope this is changed with a firmware update, as a growing number of budget RF lenses employ this simplified control strategy.
