About this deal

Choose a battery-powered pole hedge trimmer for convenience – there’s no cable and you can go anywhere in the garden. Most battery-powered trimmers have sufficient power to handle standard garden hedges. Look for a battery life of at least 30 minutes. On the plus side, there is no battery that might run out, no fumes being emitted, and no need to stop a job until it is complete. This can offer peace of mind to some gardeners. The bright orange garden tool brand Yard Force might not be the most well-known name out there, but they certainly know how to make one of the best lightweight pole hedge trimmers on the market. Boasting a 20-volt battery system, and clever space-saving features, the Yard Force 20V Cordless Hedge Trimmer is a brilliant, lightweight pole trimmer that’s ideal for smaller garden jobs. One further thing to consider when buying a telescopic hedge trimmer is how small it compacts down. Most telescopic trimmers, even when not extended, can still be quite long (somewhere in the region of 170 cm).

Remember to wear safety goggles or a visor to protect yourself from falling branches. It’s also important to keep on top of maintenance: make sure the trimmer blades are sharp. Please note that BBQ's may arrive on a pallet due to the weight and size. Insurance restrictions mean the delivery driver will not be able to carry the barbecue up or down steps, through a property, wheel the pallet across a gravel driveway or up particularly steep driveways. Unfortunately, the delivery company we use are also unable to remove items from the pallet or take the pallet away with them. The driver will only be able to wheel the pallet as far as physically possible, which may only be kerbside. Once you’ve neatened up the front of the hedge, turn off the trimmer and angle the blade at 90 degrees. Extend the handle so you can reach the top of the hedges. Einhell might not be quite as well known as Bosch, but they’ve still been around since 1964. They’ve made a name for themselves by making honest, solid, reliable tools that don’t break the bank. A lot more DIYers have started to take notice of Einhell since they came out with their range of 18 volt Power X-Change cordless tools (a line of tools with interchangeable batteries). Please note that these charges are due to courier surcharges and are unfortunately not something we can build into our overall pricing structure. This is how long the hedge trimmer itself extends to, but their ‘range’ includes the length of your own arm on top of that. This can make them less versatile, especially if you have a large garden. Extension cables may have to be used, depending on the length of the cord provided. The Ryobi RPT184520 cordless hedge trimmer is a particularly mighty power tool for the garden, chopping through whatever you put in front of it. Ultimately, it comes down to what’s most important to you. It might be that I’ve been spoiled by testing out all the best cordless telescopic pole trimmers on the market, because I was a bit nonplussed by this corded trimmer. For me, if it had been more powerful, I think I could justify being tethered to the national grid.

Seeing as this telescopic pole hedge trimmer has an impressive reach of more than four metres, I spent most of my time trying to reach the highest branches of my Japanese maple tree. I also used it to shape and trim an unruly conifer that had grown to more than three metres tall. A hedge trimmer can be powered by either petrol or batteries (in the case of a cordless hedge trimmer). There are pros and cons to each, and then there are mains-powered trimmers as well, which have their own benefits and disadvantages. The main advantages of cordless hedge trimmers are their manoeuvrability and their weight. They can be taken anywhere because you’re not tethered to a plug, and they can be used for prolonged periods without causing fatigue.

Constructed from durable stainless steel, the DeliVita Pizza Cutter ensures effortless and swift slicing of your cooked pizzas into perfect, shareable portions. The natural olive wood handles not only add a touch of rustic elegance but also provide a comfortable grip for precision cutting. This pizza cutter is expertly designed to flawlessly handle all types of pizzas and flatbreads, making it an essential companion for pizza enthusiasts and home chefs alike. You can then trim the top of the hedge from ground level, although it can take a bit of getting used to as you can’t easily see what you’re doing. Their Terratek 550 Watt Long Reach Hedge Trimmer is a relatively lightweight but noisy garden tool that works well, especially if you don’t like relying on battery power to get the job done.

Featuring a truly comfortable handle, an ingenious safety strap, and a large blade with huge teeth, Ryobi have thought of nearly everything. Safety: Weight is an important factor of safety, as tools that are too heavy can cause injuries or be unsuitable for less able-bodied people. Trimmers that weighed less than 3.5 kg were given higher marks, and those that accounted for additional weight with a shoulder strap were rated higher. In all mains-powered models, safety was also a top priority, as the power cord can pose a safety risk. However, models with a 10 m cable are sufficiently safe, so these were given better marks. For standard garden hedges, you won’t need the power of a petrol trimmer, so the choice is between battery or mains power. Of course, the power that this machine provides means that you compromise when it comes to noise. This is definitely not a quiet machine that your neighbours won’t hear – I’d say that it was the loudest of the hedge trimmers that I tested.

My Top Recommended Telescopic Pole Hedge Trimmers

Due to this trimmer’s one-piece folding body and ultralight frame, I’ve reached for it more than the rest for any odd jobs around the garden. Combined with the big 4.0 Ah battery I was using, it tipped the scales at nearly 5 kg. That’s a lot of weight to deal with, especially when so much of it is at the end of a long, narrow pole. More often than not, hedge trimmers will be used for cutting conifers. To comfortably cut a conifer hedge, you’ll need a trimmer that can handle at least 14 mm branches . Look for models that stretch to 16 – 18 mm for additional power. Thankfully, that extra power doesn’t translate to more noise. You should still wear ear defenders for your own safety, but, at 96dB, this tool won’t bother your neighbours too much!
