About this deal

There is no specific time that you should verticut your lawn. It can be done whenever and with whatever frequency you wish. You will know that it is time to verticut your lawn if it feels spongy as you step across it. We believe in providing information in a way that is both informative and friendly. Our content is designed to be easily understood, jargon-free, and engaging. We want to empower you with the knowledge you need to make confident decisions about your lawnmower and garden equipment. Join Our Growing Community: Moss spores in April and September, so the best time to kill moss is in early spring and early autumn (when there is enough warmth, fertiliser and moisture available for the grass to recover). The most widespread method is to apply a moss treatment or chemical moss killer before raking the moss out a week later. An alternative method is to rake first then use a lawn moss killer to remove the remaining moss. However, filling spreaders and sprayers with moss control products or weed killers will not 100% get rid of moss on your lawn. Once all the thatch has been removed, use a lawn fertilizer across the entire surface of your lawn. Feeding your lawn directly after verticutting will allow for the optimal absorption of nutrients into the roots of the grass.

Normally I would complain that levers mounted on the front wheels of a lawn rake are always more difficult to adjust than those mounted more centrally, however the design of the height adjustment lever on the Bosch seems to work very well. Bosch have managed to mount the lever out of the way in the front but still allow for the height to be adjusted easily, very nice! Now here’s the thing! Is the Bosch AVR 1100 a practical lawn rake? We know it performs extremely well getting the job done, but what about practicalities?

Lawn Raker Vs Scarifier Vs Aerator

Verticutting is a very beneficial technique for maintaining and improving the overall health of your grass. In addition to removing thatch, it also: There is no level indicator or vision window on the Bosch AVR 1100 so it can be little difficult to know when the collection box is full. The Flymo Lawnrake Compact 3400 does have a collection box window, this is a nice touch – well done Flymo.

Verticutting your lawn is incredibly important and beneficial to its overall health. As we have already established, it removes the layer of thatch from the lawn. This again does put it slightly ahead of the Flymo Lawnrake Compact 3400. Features found on some lawn rakes don’t make the job easier but are “nice to haves”. The Jet Collect system is clearly a feature that makes a real difference to the job in hand, the collection box capacity is increased and the ability to collect the debris is improved – Great job Bosch! The lawn scarifier weighs 46kg, making this model appropriate for heavy-duty work as the weight helps the tines penetrate into the lawn. On the other hand, the weight also makes the unit a little more difficult to lift. However, the durable wheels permit easy transportation from one location to the next which makes moving the unit around relatively easy. Additionally, this scarifier sports a transportation mode feature that raises the blades to prevent them from grazing the ground. Pros Verticutting also prunes the roots of the grass plants which encourages new growth of desired grasses. Keeping your lawn healthy in the first place is the best way of preventing dead grass. However, it’s easy to forget that lawns require maintenance (they aren’t evergreen!) and just treating grass with lawn fertilisers is not enough. How do you know you have a thatch problem? Lawns with an undergrowth and thatch problem tend to feel excessively bouncy and springy. And if you try to look through the grass and into the soil, all you see is a confounding mess of dried grass, moss and decaying plant matter.

Reliability: As the name suggests, aeration involves poking plenty of holes into the soil all over your lawn. This is done to allow fertilizers, water, and air to penetrate more easily through the thatch and into the soil where they can all be easily absorbed into the root system. Aeration is most commonly done early on in the spring or fall when the lawns are still as not heavily compacted. Buy Online With Confidence Lawn sands can be used, as they contain granules of ferrous sulphate (sulphate of iron) that directly kills moss. However, lawn sand can also discourage earthworms and should be used with discretion – to level low areas, cover exposed tree roots and fix particularly heavy thatch build-up. The sand particles contain no nutrients, so applying layers year after year will eventually reduce your soil’s fertility, as will excessive application of pesticides. We invite you to join our growing community of homeowners, gardening enthusiasts, and professionals who trust justlawnmowers.co.uk for their lawnmower and garden equipment needs. If you find one of our competitors selling the same product which we sell at a lower price than our price then we will endeavour to match their price! Before Verticutting, you will have to prepare the lawn by cutting your grass. Be sure to set your mower to the lowest setting for the type of grass you will be cutting. Use a bagger or container attachment on your mower to collect all the grass clippings. If you don’t have a bagger, rake the grass clippings. You want to ensure that your lawn is free from as many clippings as possible. This is one of the simplest and least demanding lawn care techniques of them all. It is a completely different process from scarifying, but it also plays a significant part towards improving the health of your lawn.
