Wow – that was quite a brief, but it meant that I could really exercise my imagination with the designs and I loved that! I thought long and hard about what patterns could work for all kinds of occasions and still be easy enough for everyone to knit because you know I’m all about patterns for everyone to have a go at! I hope you’ll like what I’ve come up with! The heel flap is in Ribbed Heel Stitch which makes it a little bit stretchier for those with wider feet, or even just for those who feel that a heel flap is usually a bit tighter than they’d like to wear. The twisted stitch rib sections give some stretch too, so there’s no need to adjust the size you’d usually knit because there’s a cable on the front – they should still fit properly if you knit your usual size. Some optional supplies that can come in very handy include a project bagto hold your WIP (work in progress), scissors, a pom pom maker, buttons, leather accentsand, my personal mandatory, the movie Love Actually. And what you also need to know – most importantly – is that it’s not scratchy at all (scratchy sparkly yarns are not nice to knit or wear!). It was the first thing I asked about, and the WYS Elves said that it was most definitely not scratchy because that was high on their list of priorities too. Loo roll Christmas crafts Dancer is knitted in the new sparkly Fairy Lights yarn. Oh what fun this was to create! I spent a long time searching for just the right stitch to evoke the idea of fairy lights but without all the tangled cables and testing each bulb to see that they worked! I think stripy yarns are the best sort of yarns to knit – perfect for pulling you along as you work “just one more colour”, and Gingerbread is no different. There isn’t a photo of the slouch version to show you as it’s very similar to the other two, but this is what the decreases look like on the knee high version so you can see how they work. I was very pleased with the way they turned out – they reminded me of branches of a tree (a Christmas tree, perhaps? 🙂 )
Papercraft snowflakes are the perfect way to craft up some Christmas magic! So easy, it’s a wonderful project for all ages. All you need is some white or silver paper, a pencil and scissors. Add some glitter for extra shimmer! Whether you’re using a template like these gorgeous designs from The Printables Fairy or precut snowflakes that your little ones can then decorate and collage, like these bejewelled makes by Fun Learning For Kids, there are so many ways to let it snow! 2. Paper stars You can see that it’s not a true cable but it looks very effective and I like the way that it breaks the yarn colours up in places. I haven’t been able to say much about what I was knitting over the Spring and Summer this year, but now all can be revealed … in fact, you may have seen what I was up to and started to knit it for yourself! Along with the huge cost-savings, this option offers great flexibility in that you can easily edit the script, allowing you to add or subtract characters, change names, divide up parts, etc., before printing and distributing to your kids. You can also add in staging cues to fit your situation, or add your own director notes or instructions. You may also print copies to send home, print other copies to keep at church or school, print more copies to send home when the first ones are lost ;-), so that no one ever needs to be caught without their copy. Horizon Oeko-tex certified, machine washable, and itch-free! It’s also a great alternative if you experience discomfort when wearing wool.
