About this deal

He is also one of the strongest characters in the DC universe with abilities like immunity from angelic magic, powerful healing and supreme close-quarter combat skills. When it comes to Constantine and cigarettes, another artefact closely associated with John Constantine is his signature lighter. It appears in several instances across the comics, series and movies. Astral Projection — Constantine once separated his soul from his body to travel through psyches and dimensions. ( Hellblazer: Joyride) Resurrection — In the graphic novel Pandemonium, he once allowed himself to be killed, but later resurrects himself by exiting the afterlife.

A film adaptation of Hellblazer, drawing loosely on stories by Garth Ennis, Jamie Delano and Warren Ellis, and starring Keanu Reeves as John Constantine, was released in 2005. This version of Constantine is an American exorcist and former Catholic who can see into the world beyond and fights evil with a magical shotgun. For more information see Constantine (film) and John Constantine (film character). Though not keen on using firearms, he is adept at using them and is a capable marksman ( Stations of the Cross). He owns a Scott Webley revolver which he used against the Family Man (later retconned as a .357 Magnum in R.S.V.P.). While Constantine is adept at summoning demons to fight in battles, he can also create and raise his own powerful demons with ease. Constantine has defences against psychic assaults, curses, spells, mind control, and demonic/spirit possession ( Reasons to be Cheerful part 2). He also carries with him an assortment of magical tools and weapons, such as his own trenchcoat that has its own sentient demonic powers, and the Twin Blade. Gabriel is a powerful half-breed angel who is turned human when Satan burns his wings. Gabriel is so powerful that even the Devil is afraid of Gabriel’s punch. He is regularly summoned by Constantine to help in his affairs on earth.I sat there and thought, should I go around that corner and see if he is really there, or should I just eat my sandwich and leave? I opted for the latter; I thought it was the safest. I'm not making any claims to anything. I'm just saying that it happened. Strange little story." In versions of Constatine where the audience are young his trademark cigarettes is replaced by lollipops. Although he knows how to drive, John is either too lazy or uninterested and just allows his friend Chas to drive for him. The only time he was shown how to drive was during the Red Sepulcher arc where he drove an automatic car, and during the Books of Magic where he drove Timothy Hunter around different magical corners in the DC Universe. Detective skills: In the graphic novel Dark Entries, John considers himself a detective, albeit more focused on the supernatural cases. He has great deduction powers, often using magic to get to the bottom of mysteries. An example of this happened during the Crisis on Infinite Earth, where he was one of the only few who saw it coming.

Divination — Used a pendulum and map to find the location of a magical disturbance. ( Hellblazer issues four and 182) Lucifer Morningstar aka Satan aka the Devil needs no introduction. He is a recurring character in the DC Universe and is Constantine’s accomplice and nemesis throughout the storyline. John Constantine first appeared in 1985 as a recurring character in the horror series Swamp Thing, in which he acted as a "supernatural advisor" to the main character. I haven't read the comics so I didn't really have any expectations when I saw the film. I have heard that the avid fans of the comic books complained that Keanu Reeves doesn't fit the role. That might be true but to me he really didn't seem that bad. He still has a very clear well defined body language which I feel makes up for his monotonous voice (at least to some degree). I went in to the cinema and saw the film with an open mind which is what I advise future viewers to do and not rely too heavily on what the critics say. Now story wise the film had some issues but they weren't as serious as many people claim they are. As I stated previously the film does drag a little and it does take a long time for the film to actually reveal its point but its the little things that are really interesting. The exorcism scene is very well done and the effects are generally very well made. Effects doesn't make a film, however, and in spite of the issues the film actually succeeds in telling the story it wants to and the ending is indeed a climax.

I had that trapped feeling, like some sort of a poor insect that you’ve put inside a downturned glass, and it tries to climb up the sides, and it can’t, and it can’t, and it can’t.” Made from a real lighter encased in brass and detailed with swirling engravings, the lighter features the St. Benedict medal inlaid on each side. Additionally, the Latin phrase “fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus” is engraved into one side of the lighter. This translates as “Let justice be done, and let the world perish”. In Dark City: The Lost World of Film Noir, Eddie Muller writes that, in the genre, “prayers go unheard in these parts,” an apt description of Constantine’s universe. It makes Los Angeles the perfect setting for his story: sprawling, anonymous, as disconnected as Constantine. A person could live in L.A. their whole life and still only know a fraction of it. A world behind the world could conceivably exist. It’s not unthinkable that thousands of winged demons could have been incinerated only moments before you reached Broadway and 8th, or that you can find the 101 freeway in Hell.

His characteristic violent and anti-social attitude has earned him the reputation of a formidable wizard who will do whatever it takes to get the job done. John Constantine aka the Hell Blazer is a classic grey anti-hero which is one of the reasons why he is loved by fans. Half-breeds are really common in John Constantine’s world. They can either be half-demon or half-angel. They possess the ability to walk the earth and as such are responsible for maintaining balance on earth since full-fledged angels and demons cannot enter the mortal plane. Invisibility — used sigils to make himself invisible ( Hellblazer issue 174 and 258), and he can also spot invisible forces ( City of Demons). There have been no mentioned birthday celebrations since then, but nothing in the comics has stated a retcon of Constantine's age or the real time development of his comic. In Hellblazer issue 236, an acquaintance of Constantine's comments that he doesn't look his age (which was then just over 50). Constantine attributes this to demon blood in his veins. In Hellblazer issue 298, Constantine (newly aware of him impending death) says, "Where's it all gone, Chas? I mean, what have I done with sixty-odd years of life?" This roughly corresponds with the realtime math, which would put Constantine at age 59 or 60 in this issue.Constantine's creator, Alan Moore, believes that he has met John Constantine in real life. In 1993, he told Wizard Magazine: Writers who had their run on the Hellblazer series have also admitted meeting the character in real life. Original Hellblazer writer, Jamie Delano also claims to have encountered Constantine, during his run on the character, outside the British Museum. Peter Milligan saw Constantine at a party around 2009 and rushed after him, only to find he'd disappeared. Brian Azzarello once saw him in a Chicago bar but avoided him, saying that "the thing is about John is, the last thing you'd want to be is his friend." With Constantine, I don't know who I was thinking of. I just wanted this character who knows everything, and knows everybody — really charismatic. Who knows nuns, politicians, and bikers, and who is never at a loss for what to do. I suppose there is a similarity with Baron Winters in that he is another manipulative character who has a bunch of agents working with him. ” Illusion — Making people think he's someone or something else ( Hellblazer: Pandemonium), or changing another person's image ( Hellblazer issue 149). An Angel City taxi cab delivers John Constantine to his afternoon exorcism. As Constantine gets to work, fighting to free a girl from the demon inside her, he realizes this isn’t your average ritual — something’s wrong, off-balance. Something’s coming. And Constantine isn’t just the first to notice, he’s the only guy who can fix it.
