Defender® Wide Stainless Steel Bird Spikes - Key Info Which birds are the wide steel spikes suitable for? Step 1 - Clean the Area: Before starting your Defender® Ridge Spikes installation you need to make sure that the apex ridge tiles are clean and free from moss, lichen, bird droppings and any dust or debris. This is to make sure that the silicone has a clean surface to adhere to.

Seagulls are prevalent in coastal areas so we now offer the Defender® Gull Spike in 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel as an alternative to the standard 304 Grade Stainless Steel. 316 steel has added Molybdenum which makes it particularly resistant to sodium chloride and therefore perfect for the harsher environment of the coast. Step 1 - Clean the Area: Make sure the area is clean, dry, and has no loose dirt or debris. For surfaces that are heavily soiled with bird droppings please see our "How to safely clean bird droppings guide" for more in-depth details. There are many scenarios where birds can cause problems, such as roosting on chimney pots, nesting under solar panels and sitting in gutters. We have a solution for all these issues and have created a visual guide to help you understand which products can be used where - this can be viewed here Not Sure What to Buy?. Due to the high-quality materials, the reliable staff who assemble our bird spikes and the incredible knowledge of our sales team, we can confidently offer warranties on all our Defender® bird and pigeon control products. Defender® Plastic Pigeon Spikes come with a 15-Year Warranty when installed in the UK. The whole strip is moulded in one piece from Durolon UV Stabilised Polycarbonate; this ensures they will not become brittle in direct sunlight. They are a cost-effective, long-lasting pigeon control spike. The pins of our Defender® Stainless Steel Bird Spikes are made from 304 Grade Stainless Steel which protrude from a super tough polycarbonate base. These heavy-duty bird spikes come with a 25-Year "No Rust" Warranty when installed in the UK. These bird spikes can withstand the heaviest bird infestations and the most demanding environments. Step 1 - Clean the Area: Make sure the area you are installing on is clean, dry and has no loose dirt or debris, this applies particularly to areas that you may want to use the silicone. If the area below the aerial has been heavily soiled and you would like to clean it while up on the roof, you may need to read our "How to Safely Remove Bird Droppings Guide"

Defender® Ridge Roof Spikes are made in the UK, in Devon, using only the highest quality materials. Jones and Son Pest Control Supplies Ltd design and manufacture these high-quality stainless steel bird and seagull ridge roof spikes. The husband and wife team, David and Kursty Jones, ensure all the Defender® Bird Control Products are not only high quality, but also long lasting and, most importantly, 100% effective. Why are we the experts on bird spikes? The simple answer is that we don’t supply or manufacture any other type of bird control, we uniquely deal only with bird spikes and we have first-hand knowledge of bird control methods and installation. Long Life ExpectancyThe Defender® Thistle® is made from a UV Stabilised Polycarbonate plastic. This means it will not discolour or go brittle in direct sunlight. In fact, it comes with a 15 year warranty when installed in the UK.

Pigeons love to perch on areas that are high up on buildings to view the surrounding areas. Pipes such as water waste pipes, overflow, electrical conduits and gas line pipes are great examples of where pigeons perch on the outside of domestic and business premises. Installing Defender® Pipe Spikes will instantly stop the pigeons from being able to land and cause any further damage or mess. The Defender® Seagull Deterrent Spike can be installed by anyone who has a small amount of DIY knowledge and safe access to the area that needs protection. Another method is to use cable ties. Again make sure you have the correct length spike for the individual bar. Hold the strip in place above the bar and wrap the cable tie around the base and the bar. Feed the end through the fastener and pull tight until the spike base is held in place securely. One cable tie at each end should be sufficient. The ends of the cable tie can be cut short to neaten the appearance or left long. Step 3 – Fixing Methods: The Defender® Pipe Spike comes with cable ties already fixed to each end of the 333 mm strip so there is no need for glue. Sit the bird spike on the top of the pipe, wrap the cable tie around the pipe and pull through the end of the cable tie to fasten. Pull tight and it will hold the pigeon spike firm even on sloping exterior pipe work. The ends of the cable ties can be left in place or trimmed to create a neater appearance. Snappable SectionsEach strip of Thistle® Bird and Pest Deterrent is 333 mm long, however, if a smaller strip is needed to finish a run or a small fence post needs proofing, the bird and pest spike can be snapped by hand in to shorter lengths. Along the base of the Defender® Thistle® are 4 grooves where the spike can be snapped into 5 smaller pieces that are 65 mm long. This is useful when installing on undulating, curved or uneven surfaces. As an alternative to the standard 304 Grade Stainless Steel, we now have the option to offer the Defender® Wide Stainless Steel in Marine 316 Grade Stainless Steel. Due to the added Molybdenum, this steel is particularly corrosion resistant to sodium chloride which makes it able to withstand harsher environments such as exposed coastal areas. Seagull spikes are 35mm taller than pigeon spikes, due to seagulls having longer legs, and will protect against both seagulls and pigeons. However, pigeon spikes will not protect against seagulls.
