About this deal

Do you like gold? The Adeptus Custodes are the Emperor’s personal bodyguard and his greatest warriors. Each Custodian is a demigod in golden armor, wielding the Imperium’s most finely-wrought weapons, surpassing even the Space Marines in martial prowess and tactical acumen. Simply put: These guys are the best, of the best (of the best). Don’t let Space Marine or Grey Knight players tell you different!

Pendulin’s Shadowkeepers scheme can be found in a separate article – How to Paint Everything: Adeptus Custodes Shadowkeepers. Before you start highlighting, paint the white of the eyes with Rakarth Flesh (you can correct any mistakes you made by re-applying Darkoath Flesh). Now move up to 3 parts Tanned Flesh to 1 part Doombull brown and, you guessed it, cover almost everything. The Master of Mankind by Aaron Dembski-Bowden takes place during the Horus Heresy and gives you insight into the Emperor himself (and his finest creations). I start by brushing on Citadel Khorne Red. If there’s any browns left I try to leave these showing in the recesses.Every one has their own secret sauce for the gold on their Custodes. I wanted to go for a slightly more antiqued look from the usual bright retributor armor color. First, I airbrushed the entire model with Vallejo Game Color Hammered Copper, then did a zenithal highlight of Vallejo Model Air Gold. For those without an airbrush, you could easily paint the model in Hammered Copper and drybrush a gold over top. If you’re working with GW Paints, I’d recommend Screaming Bell or Brass Scorpion, then a drybrush of Liberator Gold or Golden Griffon.

Drybrush the darker metal areas with Ironbreaker, and highlight the lighter areas with Scale 75 Heavy Metal. Dark Eldar: The Dark Eldar are a faction in the Warhammer 40K universe known for their twisted, sadistic nature. They often use leather and other organic materials in their armor and clothing. The Doombull Brown paint would be ideal for painting the leather and other organic materials that are used on their armor and weapons. The Tau armor is the most iconic color, as it is in no other faction in 40k. Ochre as it’s known is a mix of brown, beige and orange. It’s worth noting that because of this, you can alter the color to your liking, from more orange to more sand. I layered RMS Polished Bone but only on the skull of the cheast eagle, then highlighted the whole chest eagle with Vallejo Model Color White [ White Scar, but VMC White is my favourite white when it comes to coverage].Along the edges of the sleeves and inner coat, paint small parallel lines of Skrag Brown. Then paint small random dots of Skrag Brown on the rest of the sleeves and inner coat. Be subtle, don’t be heavy handed. My yellow armor is painted fairly simply following a method from The Mighty Brush. I prime in tan, pre-shade with VMA Mud and Rust, add a highlight of Insignia White, then lightly airbrush layers of Medium Yellow over until I’m happy with the vibrance. I do some edge highlights with Phalanx Yellow and a pinwash of AK Paneliner for Sand and Desert to finish up the yellow, after which it gets weathered primarily by sponging Rhinox Hide. Genestealer Cult: The Genestealer Cult is a faction in the Warhammer 40K universe known for their hybrid nature, combining human and alien elements. They often use leather, fur and other organic materials in their armor and clothing. The Doombull Brown paint would be ideal for painting the leather, fur and other organic materials that are used on their armor and weapons.

It uses three colors: Citadel Doombull Brown, Reaper Tanned Flesh, and Citadel Flayed One Flesh. This is a multistep process that doesn’t take as long as it sounds, and results in nice smooth skin if you take your time.

XV88 -> Agrax Earthshade -> XV88 -> XV88 mixed with Ushabti Bone (3:1) -> mixture of XV88 and Ushabti Bone (1:3) as final highlight for things like knotholes etc. To answer your question about Bugman, I think this how it was done.Other than that, the way I painted them is the same as all my other Crimson Fists, as per one of our very earliest HTPEs and extracted below for convenience: Both the Chaplain and the Judiciar had their skeleton ribs painted the same as the skeleton on the Ancient’s banner, Rakarth Flesh and then Flayed One Flesh. Consumed by bloodgreed, the Minotaurs lay waste to their prey in an orgy of slaughter, smashing through barricades and buildings alike to get at the still-living weaklings that cower within. The Doombull at the head of the horned army lowers his head and charges at full speed towards the leader of the enemy army, gouging his horns deep into the foe and maiming everything within reach with his axe. When all is laid to waste the Doombull gorges himself on the choicest of prey while his followers fight over the corpse-harvest at their feet. [1c]
