About this deal

I searched the web to see if other fishermen go artificial with this rig, but unfortunately, I didn’t find plenty. Most anglers use natural baits and very few even talk about lures. Finally, you can also peg a float to the leader, and turn it into a floating fish finder rig. I like to do this when the crabs keep on stealing my bait. Big carp displace a lot of water when they start shuffling about whilst working a spot, and anglers far greater than I will ever be have often reported observing fish avoiding a balanced hookbait which wafts about a little too readily after they have noticed the bait behaving unnaturally, despite it being tethered to a perfectly tied link. Yes, there are certainly times when a nice, heavy bottom bait brings advantages. In essence, the Flipper Rig uses the bait’s inherent weight to enhance its effectiveness, its weight dragging the hook point down towards the fish’s lip the moment that hooklink tightens. The two-hook flapper follows the traditional monofilament paternoster design, which can be constructed with one, two or even three hooks. Personally, I only use the flapper rig when I have more than one rod (Which I usually do). I tie the 2-hooks version of this rig on one rod, and another rig (Generally the fish finder rig), on the other rods.

The term flapper refers to the fact that the hook snoods hang loose and flap during the cast, so obviously, it is not the rig to choose if you need to fish a long-range. Using the 1-hook version of the flapper rig is, therefore, a good idea when fishing mixed seabeds. When to use the flapper rig for shore fishing ? The dropper loop rig is perfect for fishing with large live bait fish, such as pinfish, bunker, menhaden, grunion or mullet, and is often used to target big types of fish in the surf, such as bull reds, tarpon, shark, or stripers. For uncomplicated short and middle range casting from piers and beaches and for a host of species, the two-hook flapper is hard to beat. But what really distinguishes this inshore fishing rig are the small, brightly colored floats rigged next to each hook. The high low rig is another popular double hook surf fishing rig that comes with the sinker attached to the end of the line, as well as two hooks tied to the leader above the sinker via T-knots.

Generally speaking, the rig body should measure around 1-1.5 meters (3-5 ft). That’s what I’m using and what I see others using. The mullet rig is designed to fish a whole dead mullet (or similar bait fish) to target bluefish in the surf. Also, the flapper rig is a great tool to use when you don’t know which bait to use. Throwing different offerings and analyzing your catches may give you a clear idea of which meal is preferred by fish on your fishing day. With all the advantages and pitfalls we discussed above, it is obvious that the flapper rig is the way to go when targeting small species at a short casting distance from shore. Another difference is that the flapper rig is mostly used by sea anglers in the UK, while other double hook surf fishing setups, such as the high low fishing rig, the pompano fishing rig, and the paternoster rig are more commonly used by US anglers.Next position the lower snood swivel close to the Gemini Genie link and, using crimping pliers, close the crimp above it lightly
