If you want to opt for a natural waterproofing product, wax is the way to go. You can find a variety of different waterproofing wax in the market. To use wax, you must first warm it to soften it. You can even use a blow dryer to soften it. Under normal circumstances you shouldn't be having trouble with the Grangers G-Wax. By comparison I found the Altberg Leder Gris Clear to be much more difficult to work down into the leather.
