About this deal

Owned by Ian Macleod Distillers, Edinburgh Gin has been a favourite of many for a few years now, and has both a visitor centre and distillery on Rutland Place and a distillery at the Biscuit Factory in Leith. Plus their Christmas gin baubles sparked a national craze when they sold out in record time when they launched in 2017.

Like the breed, Dachshund Gin Liqueur is the perfect balance of sweet and sharp! Bursting with zest, it has a long body and is best served short. Like the breed, this is traditional, soft in the mouth and warming (made with juniper, cardamom and coriander). Their gin comes in three core bottlings – navy-strength, original and the 1947 – as well as the occasional limited edition. It’s strange how the advice to drink eight glasses of water a day seems impossible to achieve – but six glasses of gin at a tasting? That goes down like a chubby kid on a see-saw.” Take a trip to Glenshee It is infused with five Celtic botanicals (including Coul Blush Apple and Bog Myrtle), six traditional botanicals and Scottish spring water. In a market that is perpetually evolving, Persie Gin stands out for its aromatic allure, the sincerity of its craft, and its amalgamation of quality and ethical consciousness. It is not merely a gin; it is a sensory adventure, an ethical choice, and a testament to the rich, varied tapestry that the world of gin is weaving across the Scottish Highlands. Fragrant herb gardens with bay trees, rosemary and basil on the nose. To taste, it is savoury with gentle spices, and a rich, olive oil mouthfeel.

We in The Spirits Business editorial team have tried our fair share of gins in our time, but for World Gin Day (11 June), we’ve decided to look to the smaller, independent brands that have left a lasting impression on us. Discover wonderful wildlife tours to book and experience in Scotland, including bird watching safaris, whale watching, farm tours and much more! Finally – and most importantly – Persie Distillery is dog friendly! Nicely behaved dogs are welcome in the tasting room but sadly not in production areas. We tend to work out a plan on the day depending on the nature of the dog. It’s a dry and zesty gin, and being from an island containing approximately 161 residents, there’s something especially unique about the product. It’s actually known to be ‘first legal spirit from an island rooted in centuries of illicit distilling’ too.

The tour concludes with a full tasting of the distillery's gins, vodka and rum, and a drink of choice will be poured to enjoy with a selection of canapés.

Each gin is made separately, though on average each distillation run takes around four hours, yielding 300 – 320 bottles. All three sets of botanicals are macerated for several hours in advance of the run, and the entire mix is added into the pot for distillation. Drivers are welcome to take samples home in paper cups. Or if you’d like a lift we will send you information on transport as soon as you book so you can investigate local options.Pour over ice or top with Prosecco, or even in a long drink with soda. Garnish with fresh mint or a strawberry. Or greedy people have been known to pour it over pancakes! Vanilla ice cream on the nose, with butterscotch sauce and almonds. A creamy, full-bodied gin, with a nutty gingerbread finish.
