About this deal

The first Saurus Warriors to arrive in the Mortal Realms were the Starborne, spawned on temple ships that carved a path through the void from the World-that-Was. Between battles, they stalk the cavernous World Chambers of these vessels, honing their predatory skills. The realm-dwelling Coalesced, however, practise their hunting in the vast untamed jungles that surround their temple-cities. This is part 2 in our review of the Battletome: Seraphon included in the Seraphon Army Set. We received a free copy of this box from Games Workshop. Units If you’re wondering, there are two super Battalions, the Eternal Temple-host/Star-host, which operate on the same logic of “same units, different ability”. Like any super battalion these are wildly expensive to a point you’d never get to field them, and don’t give that great a bonus to justify their cost. They’re here for the spectacle and nothing more. The Saurus Warriors are between the cheapest of the Saurus units, and their characteristics reflect this: 10 wounds (16 for the Alpha), Movement and Toughness 4 and 2 weapon profiles. Each allegiance gets access to 2 subfactions, for a total of 4. The make up of these is pretty standard at this point: A new allegiance ability and command ability in exchange for a mandatory command trait and artefact.

With Nurgle abilities now on unmodified 6’s this box is an excellent choice for all the puss fans out there. To interplay with the new Bound endless spell mechanic, some of the new spells allow Skinks to bind Endless Spells already in play with the aptly named Bind Endless Spell, turning your opponent’s spells against them. Slann can dispel all endless spells within a 24” radius with Drain Magic, but leave Bound ones untouched. This really helps Seraphon double down on the endless spell mechanic and gives them a certain feel. Those instead that started settling in the Mortal Realms are called Coalesced and are now more brutal and primordial than their space-faring cousins. The temples that descended on the ground started terraforming the surroundings to resemble the Seraphon original jungles that they now protect as their own habitat. You’ll be able to get your first taste of the new Seraphon with an army set, which contains a Slaan Starmaster, 10 Saurus Warriors, five Raptadon Chargers and five Raptadon Hunters – though you could build two units of either variety!Overall, you’re probably opting for upgrades to your frogs, though there’s enough power in the other artefacts here that you might choose one of these over say the realm artefacts. Biting as a Saurus: Sunblood, Astrolith Bearer, 2 Guard, 1 Knights with Warspear, 3 Warriors with Club. Gnam.

What was once one of the worst Start Collecting boxes has transformed into one of the best with the release of the AoS 2.0 Overlords battletome. Contents: 1 x Plague Priest Plague Furnace (Hero) / Grey Seer on Screaming Bell (Hero), 1 x Plagueclaw / Warp Lightning Cannon (Artillery), and 20 x Plague Monks (Battleline in a pure Pestilens army) Okay so handlers are now part of the Warscroll itself, with three handlers for every Salamander. You can take a maximum of three Salamanders in a unit, meaning if you max them out you have 9 ablative wounds with a 4+ save before the meaningful stuff in the unit even starts taking damage. Speaking of damage, they are now D3 damage but fire FOUR times instead of once, which has improved their consistency and doubled their average damage output. Oh and their melee is now D3 damage and -2 rend. Oh and they went down 10 points. Welcome to Salamander meta.Instead, they are so imbued with energies from Azyr that they may appear as magical entities. Those with strong links with the Realm of Heavens, still living in the space vessels are called Starborne. The Carnosaur can be built in different ways with one option giving you a foot mounted Hero and a separate Carnosaur, built this way you’ll get 2 x Battleline units and a Hero at approximately 500pts and a great way to start playing with Seraphon. As for the Chaos Lord on Karkadrak – it’s a fun little combat monster that has impressive offensive and defensive capabilities, a nice leader to have when you’re learning a new faction. Toughness 5 makes them the most resilient fighters, and the 15 wounds (20 for the Alpha) can absorb all but most severe critical hits. Contents: 1 Lord Celestant on Dracoth (Hero), 1 Lord Relictor (Hero), 3 x Retributors, 10 x Liberators (Batteline), 3 x Prosecutors

He knows the Slann lore of whichever army you put him in, but not both. This does make him a higher value since base Slann can’t hot swap spells for free anymore (and Coalesced ones at all). He dropped to a very nice 395 which makes him even more appealing – if he wasn’t before. Slann Starmaster In a surprise twist you get two Terrain pieces! Ok, it’s actually the same Realmshaper Engine, the buff just changes based on whether you’re Starborne or Coalesced. At the top of the Seraphon society there are the Slann, bloated toad-like creatures gifted with incredible magic powers. The most revered of them is actually being dead long before the end of the world and the creation of the Mortal Realms: Lord Kroak. His spirit is so powerful that is still lingering around his mummified body and is able to communicate telepathically and send showers of meteors against his opponents.

Seraphon army rules are all contained in their third edition battletome. The first choice you have to make when selecting a Seraphon army is if they are either Coalesced or Starborne and is the most important one as it will force you in a certain direction. Basically you are looking at two different armies. Time Slows– Power 11+ (d3 mortal wounds for failure). Friendly Seraphon wholly within, sigh, 6” get strike-first until the end of the turn.

Unfortunately this box is pretty lousy for pure Nighthaunts. Hexwraiths are underwhelming on the tabletop and Spirit Hosts are usually passed over for the more disposable and flexible Chainrasps. Pure Nighthaunt can’t even take the Mortis Engine either, leaving it a dead weight for the brunt of the box’s cost. The format of the battalions is interesting here. There’s 4 battalions for each allegiance, but they share the same name, save for Coalesced having “Temple-Hosts” and Starborne having “Starhosts”. For example Coalesced have the Firelance Temple-Host while Starborne have the Firelance Starhost . Both battalions share the same unit requirements but grant different bonuses depending on which allegiance you have. Huge diversity of models. Almost the entire range survived the journey across the stars from Warhammer Fantasy to Age of Sigmar, what results is a plethora of options of powerful heroes, infantry, monsters and cavalry and many of them can be your battleline choices. Coordinated Strike, rather than a mediocre command ability, is now a free command to any Skink unit (including itself). You have a lot more options for viable skink units than before, so this is well appreciated. Otherwise the 4 wounds make it a lot more durable, especially with Armored Crest against elite or single model units. Just a solid buff bot that can also scrap alongside his comrades. The Crypt Horrors can built as 2 different FEC units (Horrors and Flayers) or as a Nagash/Soulblight unit the Vargheists.
