About this deal

This novel was written just after the end of WW2 and highlights how all war effects domestic and family life. Honor, the disabled protagonist, may represent the curtailed freedom for women during wartime. Then again, during WW2, many women were actively employed in factories, farms etc., so perhaps not.

The King’s General is a sweeping English historical fiction novel covering a period during the 1640s and 1650s when civil war breaks out over who should hold ultimate power in England; the King, or parliament? The King's Fund's General Council was established in 1907 as part of governance arrangements agreed by Act of Parliament. It managed the organisation until 1996, when it delegated its responsibilities to a Management Committee of Trustees.Politics – increases sub-city construction and gold production speed, resource gathering speed, and troop death to wounded rate The King's General is a complex and compelling story. Du Maurier weaves together a bitter-sweet love story and a tale of brutal civil war then adds a dash of suspense. The characters she creates are based on actual people and they are fully developed and realistic. In certain scenarios, you can assign a General as an Assistant General to the Main General. The current situations where this can be done include the below:

The King's General is well-paced, beautifully atmospheric, wonderfully mysterious, and capable of taking your breath away at times. I can think of only a handful of writers who evoke a setting as well as Daphne du Maurier―the Bronte sisters among them, who come to mind because there are many comparisons one could make between Richard Grenvile, Rochester, and Heathcliff. In Evony, most buildings in your castle can be assigned a Duty General. There generals, grant your building a boost to its function. The size of this boost depends on the General’s Duty Rank.

In fact, my sense was that Du Maurier herself never really sank into this book when she was writing it. Her use of language is as masterful as ever- but the "feel" of the book, the tone and emotion that giving subtext to her words, is somehow distracted and "off."An Assistant General cannot be sent on every activity that a Main General takes part in. The full list of activities that an Assistant can be sent on are outlined below: Sometimes Honor hears strange noises coming from the empty room next to hers. It had previously been used by Jonathan Rashleigh’s older brother John, who was said to have been insane. However, John had died young so this does not explain it. Honor goes into the grounds in her wheelchair, and looks at the windows of the rooms to try to understand the layout of the house. She explores a summerhouse in the grounds, having secretly borrowed the key. Honor’s wheelchair hits something on the floor revealing a large ring attached to a trapdoor. Honor pulls up the door and just manages to catch a glimpse of a flight of stairs, before she has to shut the trapdoor again. Later she learns that the room next to hers is used by her brother in law Jonathan Rashleigh to hide silver plate, collected from all over Cornwall, to help the Royalist cause. A secret tunnel leads from there to the trap door in the summer house.

This is a tale of conflict — not a contest between good and evil; life is rarely that simple. Overarching it all is the war itself, a classic power struggle where neither side is likely to be a clear winner. But of more immediate interest is the often vicious battle between the two women, Honor and Gartred; the emotional conflict between Richard and the son he cannot love; and above all, Honor’s internal struggle to come to terms with her own love for a man who, time and again, offends her own set of values, destroys her reputation and seems hell-bent on destroying himself. When their life together is about to really start, Honor suffers an accident while horse riding and she is left crippled for the rest of her life, this misfortune making an even much stronger woman of her as she casts Richard away for his own sake, sacrificing her own happiness and getting prepared for a life of solitude, a punishment she is ready to bear, with pride and elegance. Evony Generals are a vital component of the game. You can use them in everything you do. This includes researching, building, crafting, and fighting. The better the general is, the more effective they will be in each of these roles.

I thought then of all the things that I would want to bring before him. How he was not infallible, and never had been, and that this stroke of Fate was a grim reminder of the fact. His own harsh measures to the enemy had been repaid, measure for measure. Cruelty begat cruelty, betrayal gave birth to treachery, the qualities that he had fostered in himself these past years were now recoiled upon him." I will say for Richard what he never said for himself, and I will show how, despite his bitter faults and failings, it was possible for a woman to love him with all her heart, and mind, and body and I that woman.” In this book, the heroine Honour Harris meets one such man, Richard Grenville , but a cruel twist of fate robs her of the happy ever after she’d dreamed of, and eventually, a Civil War condemns her to a kind of alternative relationship with him....a relationship fraught with danger and heartache, but which she finds compulsive.
