I have gone on about this as a concept before but it bears repeating. Some brands have a speaker configuration that they just ‘do better’ than any other. For Acoustic Energy, however good its floorstanders are (and some are very good), my greatest enthusiasm is reserved for its two way standmounts. For Neat, it is when the company gets to use isobaric driver arrangements that the magic happens, while ATC becomes something truly special once its dome midrange is deployed. In the manner that you or I will be better at one specific task or activity over others, so it is here. The floorstanders have a pedestal, ensuring greater stability, on which four inserts allow the implementation of decoupling spikes. Rubber pads are also provided if the flooring does not allow the use of spikes. Magnetic Grill

The twin-pronged diffuser appears to be pinching the silk dome, but look a bit closer and it’s just hovering over – it’s there to help reduce the directivity and improve the dispersion of high frequencies. Borea BR09 can handle a max power of 170 watts RMS from the amp the whereas Borea BR08 has a max power handling value of 150 watts RMS, 20 watts less than the Borea BR09. The 160mm midrange driver provides a rich, warm, and lifelike midrange reproduction. Vocals and instruments in this frequency range are presented with excellent accuracy and detail, giving a sense of realism to the music. In addition, the midrange is well-balanced and never overpowers the other frequencies, ensuring а coherent and cohesive sound signature. The BR09’s cabinet is made of perorated internal panels in MDF and filled with high-density EVA foam to reduce internal resonance and allow the speaker structure to be more rigid and secure. The design is able to better absorb impacts so that the low frequencies are more precise and without distortion. Triangle claims that “Significant research has been carried out to reduce the internal vibrations in the cabinet.” This means Triangle uses perforated internal MDF stiffening panels that also use EVA foam gaskets between drive unit and cabinet, thus stiffening the transducer/cabinet combination. Triangle has dubbed this DVAS (Driver Vibration Absorption System), as it aims to reduce vibration of the suspension system of the drive unit interacting with the cabinet itself. We’ve had drive units bolted to the rear of the cabinet before, we’ve even had the driver bolted to a bar that connects to the rear cabinet, but to the best of my knowledge, a system that uses a foam gasket in this manner is a first. The big change between the two ranges however is that tweeter. All of the Borea models feature what Triangle calls its Efficient Flow System 25mm silk dome tweeter. This next-generation dome is placed inside a partial horn loaded surround, to reduce reflections, but also a distinctive phase plug (which looks more like two points joining together across the tweeter) that is said to reduce directivity and make for a more homogenous sound. This transducer is powered by a neodymium motor and is coupled to a mechanical cooling system, to ensure better power handling. Either way, I can imagine that Oscar Wilde’s Lord Darlington would wholly approve of the Triangle Borea BR09. It is honest sonic value, a rare exemplar of strong but understated technical achievement for not a lot of money. The Triangle Borea BR09 Floorstanding speakers use an Efficient Flow System tweeter, with a 25mm silk dome and phase plug to diffuse high frequencies with uniformity. This allows a reduction in directionality, letting you easily hear the music wherever you are in the room. The dome is placed inside the partial horn loading, reducing reflections and letting the tweeter produce clear high frequencies. Some have fingered the silk-domed tweeter used in the Borea range for sometimes drawing attention to grain or brashness elsewhere in the system. On Patricia Kopatchinskaja’s spellbinding recording of Ligeti’s Violin Concerto with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra [Naïve] the soloist and violin section explore the instrument’s 3.5kHz upper limit, and there’s piccolo at up to 5kHz. On some systems, these can be finger-nails-on-chalkboard moments, but in my room, with my system, I hardly felt a twinge of discomfort. Perhaps this is system-dependent. Perhaps the added low-end heft of the ’09 over the ’08 to an extent counterbalances any undesirable tendencies at the top end. If I had to have a down side, I would say that the light oak I chose is not quite as natural looking as my monitor audio silver 100's, and with grills removed they are quite busy to look at, HOWEVER, this is more to do with my very woody interiors then it is to do with anything particularly to do with the design. Sensitivity93dB of Triangle Borea BR09 is considered a high sensitivity compared to average stereo speaker which makes Borea BR09 an easy to drive from Sensitivity perspective. If you are planning to power your speaker with a Tube amp which are generally very low power, the Triangle Borea BR09 will be a good choice. It’s all good sport of course, but as an argument it fails to account for the overheads of employing design and production staff, providing a building for them to work in and equipment to work with, marketing and advertising, a dealer margin of perhaps 40%, plus service and support. Bass aside, the cohesion across the system is quite strong. The bright buzzing of the demented fairy in Pan's Labyrinth zips seamlessly between channels with insect-like naturalism, while voices shifting to the rear, such as in the opening scene of Gravity, are also nicely consistent.The Triangle Borea BR09 is a versatile floor-standing speaker that performs well in various room sizes. However, to fully appreciate its capabilities, it is best suited fоr medium to large rooms, where the speakers have enough space to deliver their full potential. Smaller rooms may still benefit from the BR09, but proper placement and room treatment become crucial to avoid potential issues such as bass boominess. This hands over at a relatively high 3.5kHz crossover to what appears to be a visually identical driver to the one used in the BR03. This version in the BR08 is better adapted for use as a midrange driver thanks to a shorter suspension travel that reduces low frequency extension but speeds up the response. The driver itself is made from untreated cellulose; something of a Triangle speciality. This is imported wholesale from the Esprit range that sits above the Borea speakers and is 16 centimetres across - relatively large for a midrange unit. It features an integrated phase plug and relatively small surround. The tweeter, meanwhile, utilises a design that's common throughout the Borea range. We experienced it last year in the Borea BR03 standmounters, and here it features the same unusual two-pronged phase plug, claimed to aid tonal evenness and dispersion. There’s an element of horn loading of the dome, too, due to the dished tweeter surround. Speaker Cables without Connectors: If you are not sure about the lenght or need longer than standard cables with plugs, choose this option. Such programme material was also a good test of timing, as the Borea displayed plenty of energy and pace when required. In the slower movements of the symphony, I was aware of the excellent coherence with which this speaker treated the ensemble – and this was the case whether it's an orchestra or jazz trio you're playing. It's as if the BR08 lets the source and amp do all the hard work and then graciously hands you the results.
