If you want to open the gate to specific players only, select Invite via Dodo Code to receive a 5-digit Dodo Code. You will need to share the code with anyone who wants to visit your island. To visit another player’s island go to Dodo Airlines and select “I wanna fly!,” “I wanna visit someone,” and “local play.”

When a visitor is ready to leave, they can return to Dodo Airport and select I want to go home to return to their own island.Now tell your friend(s) the code and the name of your island so they can know for sure that they're going to the right place. After connecting to the internet you can "search for a friend" or "Search via Dodo code." See chart below for details. If a specific friend gave you a 5-digit Dodo Code for their island, select Search via Dodo Code and enter the code when prompted. If you don't have enough space, you will be asked if you want to swap it with another item in your inventory. Rotate/Pan Camera Online play is only available between players on your Nintendo Switch friend list OR players that you have shared a Dodo Code with.

When the other players’ planes have landed on the island, select Next on all consoles to review information about how to Chat with other players. When the Dodo asks if you want to visit the Leader player’s island (he will provide the island name), select Let’s fly to visit the island. It's now up to your friend to complete the rest of the steps from their Switch. You'll find those steps below. Up to 8 players can live on one island; 4 players living on the same island can play together - at the same time - on a single system (couch co-op style). Here's how to do it. When you're by yourself you can still send messages but ONLY to your Best Friends using the Best Friends App. You can ONLY send these messages when the recipient is online. Be sure to enable the communication feature by opening the Best Friends List app and hitting the (-).

You can use this app, at any time, to call other residents who live on the same island to come play with you! Up to 8 people can live on an Island BUT only 4 people can play via couch co-op at once. Visiting players have tool restrictions that prevent them from being able to run off with all of your best harvestable items. That way if you happen to invite a troll over, they won't be able to get away with your rare goods. However, if you have a friend who you trust, you can mark them as a Best Friend in the game. This allows them to use their tools while visiting your island. I'm so glad that there are so few Pro Controller varieties as I can't justify buying these wired/subpar controllers, and I'm drowning in Joy-Con as it is. Anyone with the Dodo Code can visit your island. This is the only way to "invite" people you are not Nintendo Switch friends with. While holding a ladder, press A in front of a cliff to go up or down. This is pretty useful if you haven't built any inclines yet.
