Mari and Lowri Izzard, who are 29 years old, recently starred in the 2022 comedy drama Brian and Charles, and despite being a small independent film, it has made quite the impression. I had a couple, as it goes. It’s not something I’ve spoken about before. They were funny little characters. I remember going out to my nan’s garden and having a chat with them. When we were initially writing the film, we didn’t quite know what Charles would be. Is he an alien who’s crash-landed from a planet full of Charleses? Do we reveal at the end that it’s just Brian dragging around a washing machine and it’s all been in his mind? But that would be annoying and the audience would feel cheated. Mari, who now lives in London added: "I definitely had glimmers of moments where I didn't think it was possible to become an actress but I've always been quite headstrong with what I wanted to do with my life. It's not like I necessarily knew how I was going to achieve it but I knew I definitely wanted to be in the arts... I'm not from an artsy family and my parents work very normal jobs so it's not like I had the map to do it, but I definitely wanted to pursue something."

It’s about this gang of clowns who find themselves in a strange situation. We filmed it this spring in Ireland. It’s kind of a road movie, heading towards this ridiculous climax. I’m wearing a red nose for most of it, so I’m in disguise again. Looking ahead to this weekend, when the BAFTA awards will take place- although the pair are not attending the ceremony, they have been dazzled by the news that it has been recognised on a larger scale and are hoping for the best.
