Evil Smells Bad: In The Divine Invasion, the protagonist finds a poor, lost, talking baby goat. He slowly becomes aware of a terrible stench surrounding it. It turns out the goat is actually the devil Belial. La sofferenza è l’emozione più potente che un uomo o un bambino o un animale possono provare. È un sentimento buono”. Deciphered, my novel tells a quite different story from the surface story (…). The real story is simply this: the return of Christ, now king rather than suffering servant. Judge rather than victim of unfair judgment. Everything is reversed. The core message of my novel, without my knowing it, was a warning to the powerful: You will shortly be judged and condemned. [7] [8] Adaptations [ edit ] Stage [ edit ] Second Variety" is in a post-apocalyptic aftermath where there's not much left on Earth but soldiers underground and killer robots, most of above-ground Earth having been blasted into ruins.

Naming Your Colony World: The Unteleported Man. Whale's Mouth, a reference to the location of Fomalhaut in the constellation Piscis Austrinus. Phone-Grid Transex Network – PKD foresees internet sex. But in his futuristic world the sex network is many times more powerful and potentially destructive. If you overdo it, your body will turn flaccid and you will burn out your brains. The pols don’t like this phone sex network; they actually shot its former sponsors – Bill and Carol and Fred and Jill. A police state that doesn't mess around. This is my third PKD book and I enjoyed it. I appreciate how his books are extremely unique and original. This story was like the others: simple, clearly written, and to-the-point. His writing style stays away from over embellishing and over the top verbiage; his stories are always very direct.Džejson Taverner je jedan sasvim običan čovjek. Eldritch Abomination: Rachmael ben Applebaum, the protagonist of Lies, Inc., teleports from Earth to the supposed off-world paradise of Whale's Mouth. Once there he's shot with an LSD dart and sees a giant, angry "cephalopodan cyclops," a pretty clear Shout-Out to H. P. Lovecraft. book, stemming from the same forces which had assaulted me at the close of 1971. { PKD to Joan, 5-20-77} PKDS-4 5: Jason Tavener, celebrity singer and television personality beloved by millions, wakes up one morning in a dingy hotel room to find that nobody has any idea who he is. His agent has never heard of him; his superstar girlfriend has never heard of him; people in the street don't recognise him. He has no ID and no papers – which in a futuristic police state is a serious problem. Although PKD was likely thinking of quashed Vietnam War protests on campuses (the Kent State shootings happened in 1970), I read “Tears’ ” college-to-labor-camp pipeline as a metaphor for modern real-world prospects for young people. Upon graduation, they begin the process of paying off student-loan debt. I do think most reviewers , including this one, completely miss the symbolic, as well as the spiritual, esoteric and gnostic aspects of his work. For instance, the symbology around Taverner and the fable of Androcles, or the shattering of the vase and its clear connection to tzimtum in kabala, and so many other things like this. Pkd clearly knew quite a bit about classicism, christianity, and the apocrypha, so this is not surprising, just weird I dont see mention of it in any criticism.

The premise was brilliant: a rich privileged man who's mindlessly accustomed to fame in a dystopian future suddenly having his entire identity, and therefore his fame, taken away from him so he is forced to experience the depressing state of society first hand. I have been plowing through PKD’s oeuvre the past couple of months. Flow My Tears is probably the tenth or eleventh novel I’ve read at this point, not to mention 1/3 of the exegeses and the short stories. *

Do-Anything Robot: "Sales Pitch" is about a Do-Anything Robot that serves as its own salesman and touts its ability to do absolutely anything, so you don't have to do anything at all. Now, one aspect of space is that any given unit of space excludes all other given units; if a thing is there it can't be here. Just as in time if an event comes before, it can't also come after. To Serve Man: In short story "Fair Game", a nuclear physicist is hunted by monstrous alien beings. He assumes they want him for his scientific expertise, but actually, they wanted him for dinner. Direct Line to the Author: Played with in "Waterspider". The protagonists decide to fix a technological problem of their era by time-travelling into the past, the golden age of precognatives, and consulting with the precog whose paper "Night Flight" foresaw their very predicament: Poul Anderson. The reader eventually realizes that the "precog society meeting" is actually a science fiction convention—it turns out that all the major SF authors were precogs without realizing it, and were accurately predicting the future in their writings. Tears” is cynical – or realist, depending on a reader’s POV – yet it has a surprisingly (but admittedly refreshing) Pollyanna epilog. Taverner not only is found not guilty, but he regains all of his fan base and then some.
