About this deal

While the central characters in Follyfoot remained constant throughout the series, each episode featured different horses being rescued and their stories, with guest actors every week. The very first episode featured a horse called Dragon, whose real name was Flash. Cast: Gillian Bailey (Callie Holmes), Wallace Campbell (Vet), Christopher Coll (George Platt), Kay Gallie (George's wife), Paul Guess (Lewis Hammond), Keith James (Shopkeeper), Bert Palmer (Tom Platt), Kathy Staff (Woman)

A huge plus is the vast array of previously unpublished photos, both from the episodes and from behind the scenes. These alone make it worth the time of any Follyfoot fan. Harder to find than the Follyfoot books, especially the last two, although usually not particularly expensive to buy. Can sometimes be found in the USA and Australia also. Monica's 1963 book, Cobbler's Dream, thrust her into the spotlight. It brought together her caring attitude towards horses and people. The lead character, an ex-borstal boy, was trying to live down his past. He meets an ex-showjumping horse, who is now blind and living at a home for horses that can no longer work. Both rejected by society, they began to love and support each other. Ron Stryker ( Christian Rodska): the third of the trio of young workers at Follyfoot but also the shadiest. He is known to the police and one of his friends is Lewis Hammond, member of local miscreant gang the Night Riders. His father persuaded the Colonel to give him a job at Follyfoot to help keep him out of trouble, yet Ron is workshy and ignores constant warnings not to burst through the main gate at Follyfoot with his distinctive Triumph Tiger motorbike. Despite the rough exterior, Ron is essentially warm-hearted and loves the horses as much as everyone else. Ron is already working at Follyfoot when Dora, then Steve, arrive.Aliens in the Family 1 9 8 7 (UK) 6 x 25 minute episodes Bond (Grant Thatcher), a teenage alien from the Galgonquan race, is… Cast: Alethea Charlton (Phyllis Wetherby), Ronald Leigh-Hunt (Bernard Fox), Geoffrey Morris (Vet), Paul Whitsun-Jones (Fat Man) | NOTE: Desmond Llewellyn did not appear in this episode. Another horse, Jon Jon, in episode nine, was a rag-and-bone pony in real life. In episode ten, a pony called Glory was played by Gloria, who had a taste for orange juice. Cast: Tommy Boyle (Gypsy), Howard Goorney (Reuben Kellett), Arthur Lambert (Policeman), Walter Sparrow (Amos Kellett) As well as the Follyfoot books, the author also wrote The World's End series, which although more of a general animal-orientated series rather than pony, does include a strong pony element. They are all excellent reads. She later wrote a fantasy type series which also has a horse theme, although once again perhaps not strictly pony books.

In episode seven, a horse at Follyfoot portrayed as suffering from colic was played by a performing horse from Mary Chipperfield's Circus. Similarly, in episode eight, a horse called Moonstone was a real circus horse and used to performing. Cast: Rio Fanning (Reporter), Len Jones (Willy Willens), John Lyons (Photographer), Margery Mason (Mrs. Willens), Bryan Sweeney (Gip Willens) Follyfoot Farm is a retirement home for old or unwanted horses, invariably horses rescued from a cruel fate or cruel owners. It's run by the Colonel who is helped by his stepdaughter, Callie, and two stable-hands, Dora and Steve. These three youngsters have plenty to do at the stables, but can always find time to get involved in the mysteries and adventures that abound at Follyfoot. Cast: Clare Kelly (Katherine Ross), Joe Ritchie (Bert), Ivan Beavis (Liverpool Policeman), Michael Collins (Garage Owner), Leslie Dwyer (Mr. Wimble), Maggie Flint (Mrs. Widgeon), Janet Hargreaves (Lady Millicent Longchild), Andrew Sweeney (Small Boy)
