About this deal

Surprisingly, this wasn't all they encountered. One night, a helicopter hovered for several minutes over the set. They never found out what that was about. Then, of course, they had local looky-loos drive by often to ask what they were doing. They finished the shoot despite adversity. Without a screen or keyboard, controlling the Gnarbox requires a mobile app. The box has built-in Wi-Fi and the app is available for both iOS and Android devices. Inside the app, you can transfer images from the SD card to the Gnarbox or to an external hard drive, or both. Using that connectivity, the Gnarbox can also send photos wirelessly to your phone or tablet for editing or sharing. From my point of view the key is the ability to cull/rate raw images/videos with your phone/tablet on the field, saving tons of time and avoiding carrying a laptop. Before we jump into the GNARBOX review, though, let’s take a look at some of the specs for this device. Task Management: You'll always know the status of transfers and tasks – just tap the Tasks indicator to explore and manage the queue.

I kid you not, I literally took a session from wandering along the southern coast of Iceland, loaded it to the GNARBOX, made selects with the couple while at a great little brewpub in Vík, and had the entire session culled on my iPad before we ever got our food. I bought the GB2 soon after launch. It has been a vital part of my workflow for stills and video ever since. The company have supported it very well with excellent firmware updates that substantially improved its functionality Cekari - But you can just buy SD cards in higher capacities than this device. Then you don't need to offload and swap cards in the field at all... Yes you can, but I need the SD-card reader so I can just swap the Card/s and continue shooting without an iPad hanging there and the WD I wrote about above can take a hit or two without breaking and still the iPad is only less than 1TB with everything else installed. You can't copy files via directly to an external card/reader or to an SSD on any camera I own. My understanding is that the new SIgma FP will allow direct write to an SSD. As far as I know, current cameras all require an intelligent external device to pull the files from the camera/memory cards. It's by far our most ambitious project yet with the most people involved," Cody said. "More shooting dates, more special effect shots, and gags because that's the stuff that I want to do. I wanted to do lots of blood squirts and guts and blood and whatnot. ... But we want to do a proof of concept for a feature. And I think it'd be cool to do a kid anthology similar to Goosebumps or Are You Afraid of the Dark? Now, all this sounds great, but you might be wondering how it feels in use. I’ll admit, there are a few things that still need to be ironed out, but for the most part, this device absolutely sings. And when they're telling the stories, the short film plays behind it. Initially, we had the idea that Birthday Bash should be a part of that anthology, and it still may at some point, but we're still going to release it as its own thing for now. And we incorporated an 11-year-old and a 12-year-old as actors."

The GNARBOX is a rugged hard drive that aims to not only provide a storage option for your photos, but aims to do it while you’re still in the field…and get this: without a computer. Yes, you heard that right. While there’s an option to not ingest already uploaded images (found that after this mistake), I wish there was a notification that would pop up when the card is fully loaded and ready to ingest. Keeping all of this in mind, they’ve created quite an efficient system that keeps overheating risks to a minimum. It has been over a year since I reviewed the original Gnarbox and criticized it for its sub-par performance and overall reliability. Since then, the Gnarbox team released the new “2.0” version of the unit, which promises to be significantly improved over its predecessor. In this review, we will take a look at the Gnarbox 2.0 SSD and see how it lives up to expectations. Apple regularly removes old software from their app store, while simultaneously creating a monopoly in which you can't install software from anywhere else. That’s understandable, since the camera is very new and RAW support will probably arrive later on. When I initially saw the thumbnails, I knew that Gnarbox was reading the embedded JPEG images within the RAW file and if the software was able to actually allow me to edit the RAW file, it would most likely mean that only embedded JPEG images were being processed. The fact that the RAW file did not load means that Gnarbox is actually using a real RAW converter to work with the RAW data, which is nice. Utilizing an ingenious physical design, the ribbed surface is aesthetically pleasing, but also allows for more surface area, which assists in heat dissipation.

Additionally, after chatting with the GNARBOX crew, they’ve told me they have quite a bit of awesome sauce coming down the pipe for the apps, and to stay tuned! They are listening to our input, and I can’t wait to see what they do with on the software side moving forward.** That light did, in fact, shatter at the end of the night, which they took into account on night two.I would like to say there isn't one, but I'm also very familiar with video editing tools and photo editing tools," she said. "So it's pretty intuitive and easy, if you're familiar with that." They searched for the pigs, but found nothing and proceeded, until in the middle of one scene, they heard the telltale snorting. After some investigation, it was discovered that the corporation behind the GNARBOX product was Mygnar, Inc., which is incorporated in Delaware but also had a branch in Santa Monica, California, where its headquarters were once located. An online search for the corporation shows that its status changed from “Active” to “Forfeited” around October 2021. This review was supposed to be published in September, but the development team asked me to delay it due to the new features that were planned to be introduced with the latest firmware and iOS app updates. Specifically, the ability to copy to multiple devices at once was a pretty big deal (covered in more detail below). I was very excited about the Gnarbox, but as of today, I cannot say that it can replace a laptop. Not even close… Where to Buy

I think an app might be the way to go. Phones and cameras are starting to appear with USB 3.0 (I should say reappear, but with the Type-C port) so an app that copies over images and catalogs them properly would be the solution going forward.

Reading speeds are quite impressive, allowing for up to 75MB/s for ingesting SD cards directly to the device. With the latest GNARBOX 2.0 software update version 2.7.0, you’ll benefit from numerous new functionalities and bug fixes, including:
