When in the Air Force, I was told that Redex was the same stuff as what we called OM15. That was a mineral hydraulic oil with fairly good detergent properties and anti-foaming additives etc. It was much cheaper to take a can of OM15 once a year, and it seemed to have the same effect as Redex. That is, nothing really quantifiable, but no harm done either. I have heard that dripping it into the carburettor, producing clouds of smoke, is a good way of de-carbonising the cylinder head. After years of using Cheap supermarlet fuel, I had to fill up my motobike (CB250) at a BP garage as my Sainsburys closed for a refurb. Thanks for the tip, but since I bought the magnets and used Xtralub ZX1 I don't need anything else.

If you get carbon deposits anywhere, then none of these additives will shift it as they're practically insoluble in any solvent Each Redex bottle clearly shows how many fuel additive doses it contains on the front label, with easy marking on the side. 1 dose, is determined around the average size tank size at 50 litres. You should try the omega range of additive products. They are a cut above redex etc. I've had nothing but good experiences with them. Try Omega 909:Strictly speaking you're not making a solution of the carbon, you're oxidising it to carbon dioxide. Over time harmful deposits will build up on your fuel injectors and this will impair the function. When the injectors are clean the fuel sprays in clean jets, but the build up impairs this so the fuel isn't used as efficiently. Designed to restore vehicle performance. Regular use will clean the injectors, reduce exhaust emissions and increase fuel economy. I drive a MK2 mondeo diesel. Would the redex for petrol cars be ok in the diesel. Are the two different bottles (red for petrol, dark green for diesel) just marketing, and really same stuff underneath or are they different? I did find one excellent use for Redex apart from the usual shot per gallon into the fuel tank - I used a small amount in my Thorens 160's turntable spindle housing to reduce friction to the minimum when the turntable was in use.

Tried BP Ultimate for couple of fills - more expensive, made no difference, to either performance or consumption.
