Base: Retributor Armour | Accessories | Zatu Games UK

Gamer Network Limited, Gateway House, 28 The Quadrant, Richmond, Surrey, TW9 1DN, United Kingdom, registered under company number 03882481. I recently got this effect starting with a brown base, sprayed on with an airbrush then dry brushed on brass scorpion and then a lighter gold. Using thinned down Eshin Grey, mark in the edges of the dark stripes. Tidy up any mistakes with Averland Sunset. Once you’re happy, fill in stripes with Eshin Grey. alternatively for a more brasssy look I do the same except use nightshade wash and then final highlight with a bit of ledbelcher on top of the gold. The Retributor Armor spray that GW does is decent enough, but I've been told that there's a better way:The base colours are pretty standard, so if you’ve read through any of my Stormcast tutorials or watched any of the videos on our youtube channel (here), then you’ll have a fair idea. A note on metallic paint. What makes it metallic is usually aluminum flakes incorporated into the paint. What can happen in a thin layer the aluminum flakes do not cover the entire area. This hurts the metallic effect. Dicebreaker is owned by Gamer Network Limited, a ReedPop company and subsidiary of Reed Exhibitions Limited.

Recommend a good Gold? - The Bolter and Chainsword

Make up a mix 1:1 Baharroth:White and thin it right down to a glaze. I used Vallejo mediums for this, but Lahmian Medium would work just fine. You want it pretty transparent. Softly highlight the middle of the blade in a band across it. If the blade is really long you might want to do one wide band like this and then one thinner one either side. Use strokes running along the angle away from the tip, this helps it look sharp The colour is bright enough to have plenty of pop and the consistency helps it flow into places where water would naturally accumulate and cause rust. Having to gradually build up layers of thin, translucent paint helps avoid going too far, making it very beginner-friendly if you're learning how to paint miniatures.

Washes are where the texture really became apparent. Normally the Agrax Earthshade shade would usually create a smooth, brown dulling over the gold, now it seemed to stain it. By going around each lump in the texture it actually made the gold a lot darker. It wasn’t too much of a worry though, further paint should sort it all out! Shades: If you have any thoughts please comment below, and please consider following us on other social media listed below: In this article, I review my favorite gold metallic paint: Retributor Armour Gold metallic base paint. I also share my thoughts about the metallic spray version of Retributor Armour Gold. That took me about 75 minutes, including time spent waiting for stuff to dry, so spraying the other 6 infantry and all 6 bikes shouldn’t take any longer than that.

Spraying my Custodes with Retributor Armour: notes to self

In step 4 above switch the Vallejo metal color gold and Vallejo metal color chrome mixture to Scale 75 cintrine alchemy. Never thought of Sepia wash for gold, I think that will be the next thing, followed by drybrushing Brass Scorpion and some kind of lighter gold over brown. I'll still try my friend's idea, but given the steps, I may save it for last. You could also airbrush the suggested Scale75 triad above, but then thin them with Tamiya X20A thinner instead of water. I thought one can would cover 21 infantry models and 6 bikes. It actually covered 14 infantry models (1 Trajann, 1 Vexilus Praetor, 6 Allarus, 6 Custodians) and the bases for the 6 bikes.

The spray version isn’t what we thought it could be. But, how about airbrushing the Retributor Armour from the paint pot? Can that be done? I highly recommend Retributor Armour as the gold metallic paint that can handle almost all your gold painting needs (unless you’re looking for a less-warm toned metallic). The paint pot version is superior in my opinion than the spray can version.Do a pin wash with a dark brown oil paint (Van dyke brown or burnt umber) heavily thinned with odourless white spirit thinner in the recesses. Use a synthetic round No1 brush. Let it dry for an hour and clean up any dried pools of oil wash with the brush damp with pure white spirit. But it depends on the type of gold, like for a more aged antique gold I'll paint it up from brown as normal but give the gold a drybrush of leadbelcher then a sepia wash to give it a more dulled kind of washed out look. Overall, I really enjoyed the opportunity to paint each of the Traitor Legions, and I’ve added a new skill to my hobby arsenal. I’m very keen now to begin another new Legion, and hopefully, with what I’ve learned in the last few weeks I can speed paint an army to readiness and still maintain a great finishing standard. I’ve made the mistake of base coating with the spray, and now regretting it. Do you think that going for total coverage by the paint pot version would fix it?
