About this deal
A follow-up to Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy (1983) and the third book to feature Schnitzel Von Krumm (the other two being Schnitzel Von Krumm's Basketwork (1994) and Schnitzel Von Krumm Forget-Me-Not (1996). So twenty years later does the series still work? The rhythm of this book works really well (much like Hairy Maclary). The original has very little character development, beyond the face-value expectations of each of the dog breeds. So I enjoy learning a bit more about each of the characters. Schnitzel von Krumm is the star of several of his own adventures as well as appearing in Hairy Maclary's. A red standard smooth-haired Dachshund, Schnitzel's legs are the shortest in the gang. Dodd's pictures are good, but the rhyming verse is even better - delightful to read aloud and soon learned by heart.' - Independent on Sunday
