This time we have a multi POV story, from the eyes of Joanna, a woman who hears of her ex-husband's death, Ashley, the girl who was with him at the time, and Mel, Joanna's childhood friend. Not all of the cottages we include are by the beach, but some are almost on the beach! We have luxury beach houses in Cornwall, or beach cottages in the old port towns of England. Smugglers Cove Cottages is a favourite - sitting just above the sand at the southern end of Portreath's fabulous beach: a sheltered strip of sand so fine it could be the Caribbean. Finally, if a pebble beach for morning strolls is more your thing, One Wavecrest in Whitstable has a location right on Whitstable beach. Started off well. At one point I felt like the story started to drag on, moving on predictible path, nothing new-surprising, jumping between the perspectives of Joanna (40), Mel (40) and Ashley (18). All those changing POVs made story very repetitive, snatchy and slowed down the pace. Or perhaps it was just the case of no real plot? Ashley's story also ends really beautifully — can't say much more without spoiling but she gets a visitor at some point and that was my favourite scene in the whole book. A great story, that shows how not everything is what it seems to be, all of the time. I enjoyed this read. She’d had dreams about him. Fantasies. She’d thought about him day and night for the past couple of months, ever since she’d first laid eyes on him. He was driving fast now, enjoying the car, the moment, his life. She knew that was about to change. She’d rehearsed a speech. Practised a hundred times in front of the mirror.
